AT COLORADO: This Season (Fr.)—He is projected as a wide<br />

receiver for his true freshman year in college.<br />

HIGH SCHOOL—A SuperPrep All-Southwest and PrepStar All-<br />

Southeast performer (SP ranked him the No. 25 player in Louisiana),<br />

he earned all-district, all-region and all-River Parish honors as a<br />

senior. He earned second-team all-state and first-team all-district<br />

honors as a junior, and was ranked as one of the top 12 players in the<br />

state. He was all-district and all-Parish on both offense and defense<br />

as a sophomore, when he was all-state on defense. As a senior, he<br />

caught 40 passes for 1,000 yards and 13 touchdowns, returning 15<br />

punts for 330 yards and two scores with eight rushes for 100 yards<br />

and another TD. He caught 53 passes for 932 yards and 13 TDs as a<br />

junior, with 22 punt returns for 350 yards and 12 kickoff returns for<br />

270 yards (and six rushes for 80 yards and a score). He played running<br />

back, receiver and cornerback as a sophomore, when he rushed<br />

45 times for 994 yards and nine touchdowns (long of 70, seven runs<br />

over 50), with 20 receptions for 500 yards and five scores; he also<br />

passed for 200 yards and returned three kicks for scores (2 punt, 1<br />

kickoff). On defense, he racked up 75 tackles (25 solo), with 10 interceptions,<br />

one for a touchdown, 20 pass deflections, three forced<br />

fumbles and two recoveries. Top games: in a 63-28 win over Lutheran<br />

as a senior, he caught three passes for 183 yards, all for touchdowns,<br />

including his career long of 96 yards, with one punt return for 55<br />

yards; in a 56-13 win over South Lafourche his junior year, he caught<br />

eight balls for 163 yards and two scores, returned two punts for 90<br />

yards and one kickoff for 60 yards for 313 all-purpose yards; and in a<br />

30-28 loss to St. Charles Catholic as a sophomore, he had 230 yards<br />

of offense (190 rush, 40 receiving), returned two interceptions for 50<br />

yards and scored four TDs (three rushing, one by pick). ESJHS was<br />

10-2 his senior season, losing in the first round of the state playoffs,<br />

and was 9-3 his junior year and 10-3 his sophomore season under<br />

coach Larry Dautrieve. A two-time all-district performer in both<br />

baseball (.375 average with four home runs and 16 stolen bases as a<br />

junior) and basketball (guard; 22 points per game as a junior), earning<br />

three letters in both sports.<br />

ACADEMICS—He is interested in business as a possible major at<br />

Colorado. He was an honor roll student as a junior and senior in high<br />

school.<br />

PERSONAL—He was born September 22, 1985 in New Orleans, La.<br />

(La Place is a western suburb of the city). Hobbies include playing<br />

all sports and drawing; he’s a fairly ac<strong>com</strong>plished young artist, with<br />

second and third place finishes in local contests. A brother (Ky) is a<br />

cornerback at Tulane; a cousin (Dequincy Scott) played football and<br />

baseball at Southern Mississippi and is now a defensive tackle with<br />

the San Diego Chargers.<br />

AT COLORADO: This Season (Jr.)—Enters the fall listed first at<br />

the “X” receiver position. With only two players returning at the<br />

receiver position with receptions last fall (and that’s if Jeremy Bloom<br />

is allowed to play), the opportunity is there for him to crack the<br />

two-deep.<br />

2003 (Soph.)—He saw action in all 12 games, mainly on special<br />

teams, but in a few games at receiver. He did not make any receptions,<br />

and he had one knockdown block on return team duty. He was<br />

placed on scholarship during the second week of August camp, as<br />

the coaches rewarded him particularly for his dedication on special<br />

teams. He had six catches for 148 yards a touchdown in the three<br />

main spring scrimmages, his long play a 53-yard scoring grab from<br />

Erik Greenberg.<br />

2002 (Fr.-RS)—He played in all 14 games, including the Alamo Bowl,<br />

on the punt return unit on special teams. He registered CU’s only<br />

blocked punt of the year, when he beat his man off the edge and got<br />

a block against USC in the third quarter. He was credited with a fouryard<br />

punt return on the play. In the spring, he had three catches (for<br />

23 yards) in CU’s three main scrimmages.<br />

2001 (Fr.)—Redshirted; practiced the entire fall at receiver. He was<br />

CU’s Scout Team Offense Award winner for the Colorado State game.<br />

HIGH SCHOOL—As a senior, he earned first-team all-region, all-city<br />

and all-East Valley honors, in addition to being selected third-team<br />

all-state. He caught 32 passes for 700 yards (21.8 per catch) and 12<br />

touchdowns as a senior, with a long grab of 96 yards (a school<br />

record). He set numerous other records his senior year, including<br />

most receiving yards and touchdowns for a single game and season<br />

and the most punts blocked in a game and season (two and four). As<br />

a junior, when he was second-team all-region, he caught nine passes<br />

for 200 yards and one touchdown. As a freshman, he had 33 tackles<br />

(12 for losses) playing defensive tackle, and averaged 23 yards on<br />

three kickoff returns. He lettered three time for coach Ron<br />

Estabrook, as Chaparral was 14-0 his junior and senior years, claiming<br />

the state, region and city championships. In fact, his class posted<br />

a 44-0 record during his years as a prep. He also lettered twice in basketball<br />

(forward), averaging 10 points, seven rebounds and five<br />

assists as a senior when he earned second-team all-city and secondteam<br />

all-region honors. He was a McDonald’s High School<br />

All-American nominee as a senior.<br />

ACADEMICS—He is majoring in business at Colorado. He earned<br />

first-team Academic All-Big 12 team honors as a sophomore in 2003<br />

(second-team honors as a redshirt frosh the previous year), and is a<br />

four-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll. He won<br />

many academic awards in high school, and was a perennial honor<br />

roll member.<br />

PERSONAL—Born October 2, 1982 in Grand Haven, Mich. Hobbies<br />

include sports and watching television; he’s also coached a YMCA<br />

youth basketball team.
