PERSONAL— Born May 8, 1982 in Denver. He says the biggest<br />

moment in his high school career was when he officially signed with<br />

AT COLORADO: This Season (Soph.)—Enters the fall listed fourth at<br />

tight end. He caught one pass (for 5 yards) in major spring scrimmage<br />

action.<br />

2003 (Fr.-RS)—He did not see any game action, but did dress for<br />

eight contests.<br />

2002 (Fr.)— Redshirted; practiced the entire fall at tight end after<br />

joining the squad as an invited walk-on for August drills.<br />

HIGH SCHOOL— He lettered twice in football playing tight end, as<br />

he caught eight passes for 165 yards (long of 54) and two touchdowns<br />

as a senior. He had two receptions for 36 yards and one score<br />

as a junior. Austin was 5-5 his senior season, 5-6 his junior year and<br />

3-5 his sophomore season under coach Steve Knox. He also lettered<br />

four times in track, as he ran the 200, relays (4x100, 4x200) and threw<br />

the discus (career best of 156-0).<br />

ACADEMICS—He is majoring in fine arts (studio) at Colorado. He<br />

earned his high school’s citizenship award as a senior, while he was<br />

also was named to the academic all-conference football and track<br />

teams. He also garnered the Gold Academic Achievement Award as<br />

a sophomore, junior and senior. He was a member of the National<br />

Honor Society in high school.<br />

PERSONAL—Born in May 5, 1984 in Madison, Wis. Hobbies include<br />

hunting, camping, all types of sports and creating art (pottery). He<br />

grew up on a farm and raised several horses. (Last name is pronounced<br />

AT COLORADO: This Season (Jr.)—Enters the fall listed third at the<br />

“X” receiver position. He was second on the team in receiving in the<br />

three main spring scrimmages, catching nine passes for 118 yards.<br />

2003 (Soph.)—He did not see any game action, but practiced all year<br />

at wide receiver and dressed for seven games. He caught three<br />

passes for 33 yards in the three main spring scrimmages.<br />

2002 (Soph.-RS.)—Redshirted; he transferred from Scottsdale<br />

Community College, and practiced the entire fall at receiver after<br />

joining the squad as an invited walk-on in August. He did not see any<br />

playing time, but did dress for eight games, including the Alamo<br />

Bowl. Thus, he automatically redshirted for the year.<br />

AT SCOTTSDALE CC (Fr.)—He lettered as a wide receiver in 2001,<br />

nabbing 21 receptions for 460 yards and four touchdowns, scoring in<br />

each of the last four games. SCC won the Arizona Athletic<br />

Conference title, but lost to Garden City CC in the Valley of the Sun<br />

Bowl. His junior college coach was Ken Giovando.<br />

HIGH SCHOOL— He lettered twice in football at Grand Junction,<br />

reeling in 27 catches for 680 yards and nine touchdowns as a senior,<br />

and 13 receptions for 210 yards as a junior. Central was 6-6 his senior<br />

season and 5-6 his junior year under coach Vern McGee. He also lettered<br />

twice in basketball as a forward.<br />

ACADEMICS—He is majoring in international affairs at Colorado. He<br />

was an academic all-state selection in basketball as a senior in high<br />

school.<br />

PERSONAL—Born Jan. 19, 1983 in Grand Junction, Colo. Hobbies<br />

include hunting, fishing and playing video games. He has a rich<br />

bloodline that has participated in college and professional sports.<br />

Brother Dan is currently a senior and fellow wide receiver for the<br />

Buffs, while his father (Daniel) was a centerfielder with the Expos<br />

and Brewers, and his grandfather (Danny) was an outfielder with the<br />

Giants and Indians.<br />

AT COLORADO: This Season (Jr.)—Enters the fall listed third on the<br />

depth chart at quarterback, but will likely duke it out for backup<br />

honors in camp. He goes into his junior season ranked 31st in passing<br />

yards (737) and tied for 24th in touchdown passes (6).<br />

2003 (Soph.)—He saw action in six games, including two starts, as<br />

he performed admirably after starter Joel Klatt missed the better<br />

part of three games during the first half of the season. He briefly<br />

appeared in game two against UCLA, as his third quarter action was<br />

his first in a game since he took two late snaps against Missouri in<br />

2000—prior to his Mormon mission. He finally threw his first collegiate<br />

pass the following week against Washington State; his second
