AT COLORADO: This Season (Fr.)—He could surface at any number<br />
of positions, but should definitely get a look at both running back<br />
and linebacker during fall camp before he settles in at one spot for<br />
his true freshman year in college.<br />
HIGH SCHOOL—As a senior, he was a Prep Football Report and<br />
PrepStar All-West regional team member, earning second-team allstate<br />
and Kauai Interscholastic Federation (KIF) All-Star honors. PFR<br />
ranked him as the No. 65 player in the region and the third ranked<br />
running back, calling him “potentially the top fullback on the west<br />
coast,” while Rivals.<strong>com</strong> ranked him as the No. 8 running back<br />
prospect nationally. He earned second-team all-state honors both as<br />
a sophomore and junior, when he was also selected as the KIF most<br />
valuable player. He was injured most of the regular season his senior<br />
year, rushing once for a 12 yard touchdown run but catching nine<br />
passes for 250 yards and three scores in just over two games (he<br />
played in four preseason games and rushed for about 600 yards). As<br />
a junior, he rushed 150 times for 1,157 yards and 13 touchdowns,<br />
with a long of 84, while catching 15 passes for 175 yards. He started<br />
at linebacker on defense and was in on 75 tackles. He also handled<br />
some of the punting chores in high school, and in the state semifinal<br />
as a junior, he pinned four punts inside-the-10 yardline. Top games:<br />
in a 55-0 win over Kapaa as a junior, he rushed for 37 times for 376<br />
yards and five touchdowns; in a 42-35 win over Hawaii Prep Academy<br />
as a senior, he had 40 rushes for 315 yards and five scores; and in a<br />
win over Woodbridge his senior year, he had 33 carries for 275 yards<br />
and four TDs. Waimea was 6-2 his senior year and 6-1 his junior and<br />
sophomore seasons under coach Liko Pereira (not including preseason<br />
games), losing in the state semifinals all three seasons. He<br />
also lettered four times in basketball (forward), was a three-time<br />
Player of the Year/Island (KIF), as well as a three-time honorable<br />
mention all-state performer. He also lettered three times in track<br />
(sprints, the 100-meter KIF champion as a junior), and once in soccer.<br />
ACADEMICS—He is undecided on his major at Colorado, but is<br />
interested in engineering or business management. He was an honor<br />
roll member every quarter in high school, with his grade point average<br />
always at 3.5 or higher.<br />
PERSONAL—He was born January 16, 1986 in Kauai, Hawai’i.<br />
Hobbies include fishing, diving and motocross. His high school,<br />
Waimea, is the westernmost high school in the United States, on the<br />
island of Kauai, the furthest west of the populated islands in the<br />
Hawaiian chain. (Last name is pronounced dizz-on)<br />

AT COLORADO: This Season (Sr.)—Enters the fall listed second at<br />
the “Z” receiver position, as he is <strong>com</strong>ing off a terrific spring where<br />
the coaches named him the Most Improved Offensive Player. He led<br />
all players in the spring scrimmage receiving stats with 13 catches<br />
for 142 yards, including a 33-yard touchdown reception (from Erik<br />
Greenberg) in the spring game.<br />
2003 (Jr.)—He saw action in eight games, mainly on special teams.<br />
He twice won the Scout Team Offense Award, being so honored by<br />
the coaches for the Colorado State and Texas Tech games. On the<br />
heels of a good spring and solid fall camp start, he was placed on<br />
scholarship during the second week in August, as the coaches<br />
rewarded him particularly for his dedication on special teams. He<br />
had a solid spring, establishing himself as a reliable wide out, while<br />
he also saw action some action at returning punts and kickoffs. In<br />
the three main spring scrimmages, he reeled in five catches for 107<br />
yards and one touchdown (a 53-yard grab from Greenberg).<br />
2002 (So.)—He joined the team as a recruited walk-on in August,<br />
after transferring from Nebraska’s baseball program. He was used<br />
solely on special teams in the four games he played in. He was the<br />
Scout Team Offense Award winner for the Kansas game.<br />
Other Years—He was a member of the University of Nebraska’s<br />
baseball team in 2000 and 2001 as a scholarship outfielder, but he<br />
did not see any game action.<br />
HIGH SCHOOL— He lettered four times in football, playing on all<br />
three phases of the game as a running back, defensive back, and<br />
punt/kick returner. As a senior he garnered all-state (honorable<br />
mention) and first-team all-Jefferson County League honors. He<br />
rushed for 200 yards and 10 touchdowns on 22 attempts, and also<br />
gained 400 yards and 10 scores through the air with 30 receptions.<br />
Of the three punts he returned, two went for touchdowns, while his<br />
only kick return also yielded a touchdown. As a junior, he earned allstate<br />
(honorable mention) accolades and was named to the firstteam<br />
all-conference squad. He rushed 150 times for 1,110 yards and<br />
20 touchdowns that season, also netting 20 catches for 300 yards<br />
and five touchdowns. Three of his five punt returns were returned<br />
for scores. Arvada West was 5-5 his senior year, 8-3 his junior year<br />
and 12-2 his sophomore season, winning the 5A state championship<br />
under coach Dave Logan. He was a four-year letterman in baseball,<br />
earning honorable mention all-state and first-team all-conference<br />
honors his junior and senior seasons at shortstop (and was a second<br />
team all-conference pick as a sophomore). He also lettered twice in<br />
track (sprints).<br />
ACADEMICS—He is majoring in <strong>com</strong>munication at Colorado, and<br />
is on schedule to graduate this December. He was named to the<br />
academic all-state team as a senior in high school.<br />
PERSONAL—Born Sept. 16, 1981 in Lakewood, Colo. Hobbies<br />
include listening to music and recreational shooting. He is the third<br />
in a succession of Duren’s to play at Colorado, as father Gary was a<br />
defensive back in 1973-74, and older brother Matt a safety in 2000-01.
