Press Luncheons: Gary Barnett will hold Tuesday press conferences<br />

starting Sept. 7 through Nov. 30 (except the Tuesdays<br />

prior to open weeks) in the Dal Ward Center. Lunch is served<br />

at 11:30 a.m., with Barnett starting the conference at Noon.<br />

Note: The luncheon the week of the Nebraska game will be<br />

Monday, Nov. 22.<br />

Weekly Releases: Colorado’s weekly news release will be available<br />

through its website and via E-mail. For further details, call<br />

the CU Athletic Media Relations office at 303/492-5626.<br />

Internet: All Colorado media relations information is available on<br />

the Internet at www.CUBuffs.<strong>com</strong>. The weekly release is<br />

scheduled to be posted no later than 6 p.m. on Mondays.<br />

1. Media representatives desiring access to players, coaches and facilities<br />

must obtain the consent of the Athletic Media Relations (AMR)<br />

office. A general idea of what interviews are about may be requested;<br />

however, players and coaches will determine if they will do interviews or<br />

answer questions, not AMR personnel.<br />

2. Most of practice is closed to the media and public. For any practice<br />

that is open, a practice pass system is utilized: media members must<br />

wear either their season credential or practice passes at all times. The<br />

first 20 minutes of practice is open to all members of the media for photography<br />

needs; reporters are wel<strong>com</strong>e during this time as well.<br />

Photographers (still and video) are allowed to shoot the first 20 minutes<br />

of practice. Obviously certain plays and formations are not to be<br />

taped, filmed, photographed or reported (i.e., “trick” plays, option<br />

plays, or anything that ever reveals an entire formation. All video at<br />

practice is to be shot tight (drills, warm-up and some of special teams<br />

excluded). In addition, no microphones at any time can be placed in<br />

a position where they can pick up the cadence from the line of scrimmage.<br />

Violation of this will result in the revocation of all privileges.<br />

Members of the media are not to interview the players during the<br />

daily moratorium period (2:15 p.m. through the end of practice). In<br />

addition, during the designated times of open practices, media members<br />

are to be behind the end zones at all practices at the lower grass<br />

fields and in the stands for any session in Folsom Field.<br />

Live television shots must be approved by the Athletic Media<br />

Relations office and/or the head coach in advance.<br />

3. The following are times when football players are available for<br />

interviews (in-season):<br />

9:00 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. ................ *Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday<br />

After Practice .............................. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday<br />

(*—2:00 p.m. after return to standard time.)<br />

The cutoff point for player interviews is after practice on Wednesday<br />

prior to the game (Tuesday for Friday games). Any exceptions to this<br />

must be approved by the head coach (including any interviews on<br />

the road: newspaper, radio or television).<br />

The head coach will be available to the media at the following times:<br />

his Tuesday Luncheon (Noon), post-practice on Monday, Tuesday<br />

and Wednesday (other times at his discretion), and pre-practice<br />

(approximately 2:00-2:15 p.m.) on Thursday. Exceptions: television<br />

and radio broadcast rights holders’ requirements, usually fulfilled<br />

Fridays. Assistant coaches are available for interviews Monday<br />

through Thursday (pre-practice), then afterwards at their discretion.<br />

All are available following games.<br />

INTERVIEW POLICIES<br />

Monday Coaches Briefing: All 12 league coaches are available<br />

Mondays throughout the season (Aug. 30 through Dec. 6) on a<br />

Big 12 Football Coaches Teleconference. Barnett is on weekly<br />

at 10:40 a.m. mountain; to access the conference, please call<br />

913/981-5507.<br />

Video Highlights: Details were not finalized at press time; please<br />

call the league office for information (214/742-1212).<br />

Weekly Releases: Please go to www.big12sports.<strong>com</strong> or call the<br />

conference office to be placed on the league’s E-mail list.<br />

Television interviews can take place with the most ease between 1:00<br />

p.m. and 2:00 p.m. and following practice. Photographers are allowed<br />

to shoot practice footage, as long as they follow the guidelines set<br />

forth above, under No. 2, parts A & B.<br />

No posed pictures (either for newspapers or television) are to be<br />

taken between 2:15 p.m. and the end of the practice.<br />

Exceptions to any of the above must be approved by the Athletic<br />

Media Relations office and the head coach. Exceptions will be limited,<br />

but would include standard rights fee network interviews on the day<br />

preceding the game, taping of headshots prior to a game, or if a coach<br />

or student-athlete did not meet an obligation he agreed to<br />

earlier in the week.<br />

4. Sunday is the standard day off for players, as per NCAA rule (one day<br />

off per week); they are available at their own discretion as nothing will<br />

be officially arranged through CU. Coaches will be grading film and<br />

preparing game plans, and will have little or no availability on Sundays.<br />

5. The lockerroom is closed to the media at all times. A member of the<br />

Athletic Media Relations office will be on hand to help arrange interviews<br />

betweem 1-2 p.m. and following all practices. Members of the media are<br />

to advise the AMR office that they will need to conduct interviews<br />

following practice (seldom is advance notice required since all practices<br />

are staffed).<br />

6. The training and equipment rooms, the strength and conditioning<br />

center and the academic/tutorial areas are AT ALL TIMES off-limits to the<br />

media. The only exception to this rule is if a special feature involving one<br />

of the areas is requested; approval must be sought in advance from the<br />

Athletic Media Relations office and the proper department head.<br />

7. The head coach will hold a Tuesday Noon press luncheon to discuss<br />

the previous Saturday’s game and the up<strong>com</strong>ing week’s game. He can<br />

also be heard on the Big 12 Conference’s Monday teleconference at 10:40<br />

a.m. mountain time. EXCEPTION: The week of the Nebraska game (on a<br />

Friday), the luncheon will be held on Monday. There are no press<br />

luncheons those weeks leading up to an open date.<br />

8. Road practices, if open, will only be to members of the media that<br />

cover CU on a regular basis, as well as any members of the national<br />

media (opponent media is at the discretion of the head coach). The head<br />

coach is usually available for interviews with the media for a very brief<br />

time following practice.<br />

9. It is the request of the University of Colorado football program that<br />

players are not to be called at home, unless permission has been granted<br />

by the player or through the director of media relations. Even though<br />

most phone numbers are generally listed in directory information, players<br />

are allowed to decline interviews when contacted at home if the<br />

interview was not approved or scheduled in advance.
