A first-team All-American as a senior in<br />

1975 by the Associated Press (honorable<br />

mention by UPI), the first tackle (offensive<br />

or defense) to be afforded the honor at<br />

Colorado… A first-team All Big-Eight Conference performer that<br />

same year… The recipient of the John Mack Award as a senior, as<br />

the team’s most outstanding lineman… Also lettered in baseball at<br />

KAYO LAM<br />

B, 5-9, 160, Glenrock, Wyo. (Glenrock)<br />

The first, and to this day, the only<br />

Colorado player to lead the nation in any<br />

statistical category in back-to-back seasons,<br />

as he was the country’s top rusher<br />

as a junior (906 yards in 1934) and senior (1,043 in 1935)… A twotime<br />

All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference performer, he just<br />

missed out on All-America honors… He also led the nation in allaround<br />

yardage as a senior with an amazing 2,225 (1,043 rushing,<br />

364 passing, 530 punt returns and 288 kickoff returns)… He also<br />

averaged around 40 yards per kick as the team’s punter… His<br />

backup in 1935, when he led the nation in rushing was none other<br />

than Byron White… The first Buff to play in a postseason All-Star<br />

game when he <strong>com</strong>peted in the East-West Shrine Game on Jan. 1,<br />

1936… He played six different instruments and conducted his own<br />

orchestra in college, leading to one of his nicknames, “The<br />

Crooning Quarterback”… He earned seven letters in three sports:<br />

A Playboy Preseason All-American prior to his senior year… He<br />

was an honorable mention All-American as a junior in 1990… A<br />

two-time first-team All-Big Eight selection as a junior and senior,<br />

the first Buff center to ever be honored twice with all-league honors…<br />

One of six finalists for the 1991 Outland Trophy Award… In<br />

Colorado, playing first base with a .350 average, 28 runs batted in<br />

and five tape-measure home runs his junior year (spring of<br />

1975)… Also dabbled in rodeo (calf-roping)… A first round choice<br />

by Green Bay in the 1976 NFL Draft (23rd overall)… He played in<br />

58 career NFL games with Green Bay (1976-81) and Houston<br />

(1982).<br />

was a local boxing champion… Served as a lieutenant in the Navy<br />

for almost three years during World War II… Upon his return, he<br />

went to work for CU for what would be the next 36 years, the majority<br />

as athletic business manager… A member of the Colorado<br />

Sports Hall of Fame (inducted in 1971)… A member of CU’s All-<br />

Century Team, selected in 1989… Inducted into the CU Athletic<br />

Hall of Fame in 1999, the group’s second class… Full name was<br />

William C. Lam… He passed away on April 23, 1993 at the age of 81.<br />

over 2,200 career plays, he allowed just four quarterbacks sacks<br />

and was called for a penalty only four times… Won the Derek<br />

Singleton Award as a senior (for spirit, enthusiasm and dedication)…<br />

A ninth round pick by Kansas City in the 1992 NFL Draft<br />

(244th overall)… He played in 137 career NFL games with Chicago<br />

Bears (1992-95), Indianapolis (1996-98), Cincinnati (1999) and<br />

Washington (2000)… Returned to Colorado after his retirement<br />

and is a high school teacher in Denver and is currently the radio<br />

color analyst for CU football for KOA-Radio.
