honorable mention All-American by UPI…<br />

CU’s Most Valuable Player as selected by his teammates… Was<br />

only the second player in school history to lead the team three<br />

straight seasons in tackles, and finished his career as CU’s second<br />

all-time leading tackler (trailing Barry Remington, who was the<br />

first three-time tackles leader)… Also All-Big Eight as a junior in<br />

1991, when he was the first and to date only player in school history<br />

to score a defensive extra point, as he rambled 85 yards for<br />

two points in a 19-19 tie with Nebraska… Set a school record with<br />

19 solo tackles (20 total) at Illinois in 1990… Led the Big Eight in<br />

tackles as a sophomore with 150, with his 105 solo stops the sec-<br />

One of the first three unanimous All-<br />

Americans in CU history, when the<br />

seven NCAA recognized selectors all<br />

tabbed him on their first-team in 1990<br />

(along with OG Joe Garten and OLB Alfred Williams that same<br />

year)… He finished third in the Heisman voting that year,<br />

when he rushed for 1,628 yards as the starting tailback on<br />

CU’s national championship team; that total was good for<br />

second in the nation (he lost the title by 16 yards)… A twotime<br />

first-team All-Big Eight performer in 1988 and 1990, and<br />

was the conference’s offensive player-of-the-year as a<br />

senior… Named to CU’s All-Century team, the only active<br />

member at the time who was selected… Finished his career<br />

as CU’s all-time leader rusher (3,940 yards), and was also tops<br />

in attempts (699), all-purpose yards (4,351) and scoring (254<br />

points) and second in total offense (4,003)… The first (and<br />

only) CU player to rush over 1,000 yards in two seasons… A<br />

defense as a senior in 1952… All-Big Seven<br />

Conference selection in both 1951 and<br />

1952… To this day, he remains the CU season<br />

record-holder in fumble recoveries (seven in ‘52) and in takeaways<br />

(interceptions and fumble recoveries with nine, also in<br />

‘52)… A monster on defense, he had at least 20 tackles in CU’s 21-<br />

21 tie with Oklahoma in 1952, the only blemish in conference play<br />

for the Sooners in the 10-year history of the Big Seven (tackles<br />

weren’t tracked back then)… Earned nine letters in three sports<br />

as a Buff (football, baseball, basketball)… Seventh-round draft<br />

ond most in the nation for 1990… Had three career games with 20<br />

or more tackles… A seventh round selection by Oakland in the ’93<br />

NFL Draft, he played nine seasons with the Raiders before moving<br />

on to Minnesota for two more before retiring after the 2003 season.<br />

and 146 receptions for 1,223 yards receiving… He coached<br />

running backs for two years for CU (2001-02) before moving<br />

on to UCLA.<br />
