Athletics 2010 is a <strong>com</strong>prehensive plan for the<br />

University of Colorado Athletics that will graduate nationally<br />

<strong>com</strong>petitive student-athletes through achievement of<br />

the highest standards in education, athletic <strong>com</strong>petition,<br />

culture, and facilities. The Athletics 2010 vision is unique<br />

because it provides a holistic approach to defining student-athlete<br />

success.<br />

It will better prepare student-athletes for long-term life<br />

success by fostering academic achievement, leadership<br />

skills, and personal and professional growth.<br />

The purpose of Athletics 2010 is to establish accountability<br />

within the department to help every student-athlete<br />

grow and prepare for a successful life beyond<br />

graduation. Designed to develop over the first decade of<br />

the 21st Century, Athletics 2010 has specific measurable<br />

goals. It will ensure that CU is meeting the academic and<br />

athletic needs of all student-athletes.<br />

Athletics 2010: Four Key Elements<br />

Education. The CU Athletic Department will recruit,<br />

education, retain and graduate nationally <strong>com</strong>petitive student-athletes.<br />

Athletics 2010 will provide CU students<br />

with an environment in which they can pursue academic<br />

achievement, develop leadership skills, and grow person-<br />

ally and professionally in preparation for success beyond<br />

graduation. The following are goals that have been set to<br />

meet these high academic standards:<br />

Graduate every student-athlete who <strong>com</strong>pletes his<br />

or her eligibility at CU;<br />

Retain nine out of 10 student-athletes;<br />

Ensure student-athletes retain a 3.0 mean grade<br />

point average;<br />

Provide every student-athlete with a mentor;<br />

Give every student-athlete an opportunity to accept<br />

an internship position or professional job offer<br />

within two months of graduation;<br />

Establish nationally recognized leadership and personal<br />

development programs for student-athletes.<br />

Winning. Our student-athletes will understand and<br />

experience the educational value of being an athletic<br />

champion by being a member of a team that consistently<br />

<strong>com</strong>petes for the highest possible athletic honors while<br />

representing the ideals of sportsmanship. Specific winning<br />

goals include the following:
