11.7 National <strong>Information</strong> Centre (NIC) of the Ministry of<br />

Communications and <strong>Information</strong> Technology - through initiatives<br />

such as the DISNIC-AGRIS Project, and AGRISNET (a NIC-net<br />

based <strong>Agricultural</strong> Informatics and Communications Network) -<br />

seeks to reach all agricultural districts and blocks through its<br />

massive “Gateway Networks” (R.B.Singh, P.Kumar and<br />

T.Woodhead, 2002) 41 . Through these networks, farmers will have<br />

opportunity to learn of and benefit from new and improved<br />

agricultural practices, to have weather-forecast-based guidance<br />

for timely agricultural operations, to be alerted by satellite<br />
