(j) Awareness of farmers about the causes and problems facing<br />

the watershed.<br />

(k) Economic data (farms production, farms income, farm models,<br />

farming systems, land use patterns, employment, labour demand<br />

and supply, rural enterprises, marketing, etc.)<br />

5.3 It is essential to make a reference to the potential impacts<br />

of the process of economic globalisation and liberalisation with<br />

their enhanced primacy of market forces in the future<br />

development of fragile ecosystems. There is no doubt that the<br />

fragile ecosystems, like the rainfed areas, are likely to face<br />

their destructive onslaughts in a big way in this 21st century. To<br />

combat the consequences here, some vital changes in the roles of<br />

the state, market and civil society, and the rapid growth of<br />

<strong>Information</strong> and Communication Technologies (ICTs), are<br />

essential. This "Blue Revolution" is a step towards water<br />

conservation and management, smallholder irrigation, drainage and<br />

waste water reuse, to achieve sustainable public health and food<br />
