This municipality is located in the department of La Union, bounded as follows: North by Anamorós, south by Bolivar and San Jose, the East by El Sauce and Pasaquina, west by Sociedad Morazán Department. This town is surrounded by numerous streams and rivers. The population is 28,986 inhabitants. The municipality is divided into 8 country-sides, which are: El Algodon, La Chorrera, Pasaquinita, Copetillo, Las Piñas, San Sebastian and Las Cañas. San Miguel City is the most populous city in El Salvador after Santa Ana, and it’s the third most important Salvadorian city.
