2012 is an exciting year for us as we continue 

to expand our fleet and geographical coverage. 

One of the main additions to our fleet this year 

are the two New Bronto S50XDT-Js these have 

an incredible 16 metre telescopic cage boom, 

a maximum working height of 50 metres and 

still able to carry upto 600kg, we expect these 

to be very busy with window cleaners and 

property maintenance companies, check it out 

on page 19. 

In this guide you’ll also find an easy steps 

guide to choosing equipment on page 80, and 

remember, we’re always just a call away if 

you’d like to discuss your hire needs further.

truck and van mounted 

At Facelift we have an extensive range 

of truck mounted platforms, many of 

these are self drive and can be driven on 

a standard driving licence. Vehicles can 

be driven up to 7.5 tonne with a pre ‘97 

driving licence and up to 3.5 tonne with 

a licence issued after Jan 1st 1997. 

These modern self drive vehicles are 

straight-forward to set up, and easy 

tooperate with proportional controls and 

offering heights up to 29 metres. They 

offer speed and versatility, these are 

available with an experienced operator, 

or IPAF operator training can be 

provided if required. 

HGV vehicle mounted machines are 

available with working heights ranging 

from 30m - 61m and come with one of 

our fully trained operators.

This van mounted platform sets a new standard with 

370KG of spare payload capacity, kerb side access 

and all in a in a 3.5 tonne van. The zero tail swing 

plus two independently operated booms arrangement 

gives excellent controllability when manoeuvring. The 

Ascendant has a large, insulated GRP cage with a 

walk in entry door and a 230kg SWL carrying capacity 

to help maximise productivity.

Self Drive 

aichi 14 

Equipped with a 6.2m2 cage the Aichi can lift 

payloads of up to 1,000kg to a maximum working 

height of 14m. This allows installation engineers to fit 

large components quickly and easily, inspections to 

be made more efficiently or more tools to be carried 

to the workface. 

The compulsory IPAF training for this machine is

The Ascendant 15m Van mount boasts an incredible 

1,000kg payload capacity, so you can carry all the 

tools and PPE kit that you need for the job. The GPR 

cage can carry up to 230kg, enough for two men 

and their toolkits. The two section telescopic boom 

features a fly boom, making it easier to position the 

platform and to reach over obstacles. Full pressure 

proportional controls and zero tailswing make this an 

exceptional van mounted platform.

The new Ascendant 17 has been designed to allow up 

to 17m of working height on a vehicle under 3,500kg, 

which can be driven by anyone with a regular driving 

licence. 

The telescopic boom gives excellent controllability 

and will allow up to 12m outreach with a full capacity 

cage. A cage size of 0.7m x 1.2m means you can work 

safely and comfortably.

The Bronto S50XDT-J has a unique three section super-jib 

which offers unrivalled up-and over reach, unheard of in 

this height category. The two section telescopic cage boom 

provides 16m of up-and-over at 33m height. With a maximum

this Bronto provides access to previously inaccessible locations 

over rooftops, vestibules, canopies, harbour walls and bridges.

The Bronto 61xdt (extra duty telescopic) combines 

many features making it the most versatile in its class. 

The flexibility of one sided, variable jacking allows 

the 61 to be set up in busy streets and confined 

spaces with the minimum of disruption. The telescopic 

fly boom and rotating cage with fully proportional 

controls make this a popular machine with window 

cleaners and glaziers as building facias can be 

covered with speed and control.

boom attachment for the Bronto 52 

and 61xdt. 

This allows the machine to lift a load of 

up to 1,300kg with the cage, providing 

the ability to install glazing and cladding 

panels, mobile phone masts, small wind 

turbines and lamp columns. 

The combined unit has a maximum 

working height of 27m when using the 

jib. It consists of a crane extension fitted 

into the main boom which still allows for 

normal telescopic movements of the cage 

boom. 

This gives installers the ability to guide 

and fix objects into place whilst working 

from the platform. Now one machine can 

replace the need for a crane and platform 

working separately.

How high is my job? 

The machine height quoted is the measure ment from ground level to the 

platform’s maximum height, plus the reach of an average person. 

How much outreach do I need? 

The outreach of a machine is measured from the centre of the turret to the 

fingertips of the average person on a fully extended boom. Remember to include 

the vehicle width and outrigger spread. 

How much weight can I carry? 

The outreach is dependent on the weight within the cage, i.e. the less weight 

in the cage the greater the outreach. Always calculate the total weight that the 

machine will have to carry including any tools and compare this to the machine’s 

safe working load. Machine diagrams carry additional information. The average 

person weighs 85kg/13 stone. 

What are my ground conditions? 

Gradient, wet or rough terrain will make a difference to your choice of equip ment.

Am I working inside? 

When working inside you may wish to consider an electrically powered machine, 

(especially in more confined spaces). You will need to measure any doors that 

the machine will go through. 

Can I operate the machine myself? 

All of our machines apart from HGV and the highly specialised ranges can be 

self operated. Operators are available for all of our machines if required. We are 

able to provide a training course for all self operated machines which gives you 

a recognised operator’s licence. 

What’s the cost? - self operated 

Self operated machines are hired on a daily or weekly rate. The minimum hire 

period is 1 day on self drive vehicles. Weekly hire periods are 5 days for self 

drive, self propelled or specialist internal access and 7 days for trailer mounted 

platforms. All hire rates are exclusive of trans portation. All hires of a duration 

of less than one week must be collected from depot. All prices are exclusive of 

VAT. 

What’s the cost? - operated 

If you require an operator, the hire rate is based on a minimum 10 hour day

Low-level access is a term that has been 

adopted to describe almost an entirely new 

sector within the access industry. It has 

arrived since the introduction of new 

legislation, including the Working at 

Height regulations of 2005. It is generally 

accepted that it describes working at 

up to 4.5-5m working height on internal 

applications on flat, level surfaces, 

using manual or powered access 

equipment, from basic step ladders 

to fully self-propelled platforms. 

This section of our guide covers specifically 

the powered access products available in this 

sector, divided into two types: Push around 

(the user pushes around) and Self-propelled 

(drives around). 

Push-around: Comprise of a simple lifting mechanism, either scissor or 

mast with a fully guarded platform. The user pushes into the work position, 

steps into the platform and presses a button to lift the platform to the desired 

height. Various sizes are available with different maximum working heights and 

platform sizes. 

Self-propelled: As above but with the ability to drive at around walking speed 

when the platform is fully down and at an automatically limited maximum speed 

when elevated. Some can be driven even when fully elevated.

platform, towable by vehicles (axle weight 

allowing). 

Scissor Lift A machine with a long and/ 

or extendable platform or lift table which 

raises by way of a scissor type action 

Self-Drive non HGV Non HGV vehicle 

that can be driven on a standard drivers 

licence issued before 01/01/97 or a C1 

licence. 

Self-Propelled A machine that has 

power supplied to the wheels enabling 

it to propel itself. (Most self-propelled 

platforms can drive along with the 

platform raised). 

Site Propulsion A form of selfpropulsion 

usually found on larger trailer 

mounted platforms. A drive wheel is 

placed so that it rotates road wheels. 

Good for short periods of positional 

movement across a site. 

Turret Unit from which the booms and 

arms rotate. The point where the machine 

meets the chassis is also called the king 

post or the centre post. 

Working Height Measured from the 

ground to the fingertips of an average 

male when the arm is extended vertically.
