VENUE AND TIME
The Symposium will be held in the city of Porec, Istria in Valamar
Diamant Hotel, from Tuesday to Thursday, May 7-8, 2013.
REGISTRATION FEE
Registration fee for participants is 300 € if paid before February
1, 2013. After that date the registration fee is 350 €/person., Free
entrance for students, with lunch supplement 35 €.
Participants following some programme of national engineering
chambers for continuous education will achieve 17 points
(4 points for norms and standards) when attending the
Symposium.

WELCOME
ITA Croatia is organizing in 2013 a new symposium on tunnelling
and underground structures with the title “Tunnelling in
Mediterranean Region”. Symposium is this way dedicated to
special conditions we may meet in specific mediterranenan
conditions such as: limestone-breccia-dolomite geological
formations, dense cities along coasts with intensive daily traffic,
shallow sea and islands near tot he coast without any traffic
connection, huge masses of tourists moving during summer
months without proper massive transport facilities, numerous
historical monuments above and under the ground in old cities
attractive to tourists.
In the sense of protecting the environment using underground
there are a lot of possibilities to apply underground solutions in
mediterranean region. With the support of International Tunnelling
Association ITA-AITES and our neighbouring countries we
are glad to open the possibility to speak about ideas, tehcnical
possibilities and financial interest to develop numerous future
underground solutions in Mediterranen for the benefit of our
environment and all inhabitants and users in the region.
SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM and MAIN TOPICS
Scientific program foresees following main topics of the symposium
with special:
1. urban planning near the coast
2. project development using underground
3. risk estimation and fesibility studies of new projects
4. design and analysis
5. construction methods in different geology
6. mechanical and electrical equipment
7. immersed tubes toward islands

ITA-CET SEMINAR on IMMERSED TUBES
ITA CET Foundation has been developed under the cover of
International Tunnelling Association as the center for promoting
the knowledge and education in the area of tunnelling and
underground structures.
For the purpose of Symposium in Porec, in May 2013 ITA-CET
Foundation will organize a special one-day seminar about
planning, designing, analyzing, constructing and financing the
development of immersed tube projects that could be in different
shapes and lenghts developed and applicated on the coast
in the special Mediterranean conditions regarding to geology,
maritime conditions, traffic requirements and extensive movements
of masses of tourists during summer holidays.
That seminar will be held on May 9th, 2013 at the same place
where the Symosium is organized. The Seminar is dedicated to
all members of engineering society, clients, construction companies,
local officials from coastal area and especially for students.
Prices for attending the seminar will be announced
in later informational letters providing special prices for students
including Master and PhD students. Each participant will
receive a new bilingual English/Croatian book on immersed
tubes that could be used in the future as the guideline and manual
for developing immersed tube project that will be published
in colaboration with ITA-AITES.
CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS
ITA Croatia is inviting individuals wishing to make a contribution
in the form of an article to submit an abstract in accordance
with the topics of the Symposium. The Scientific Committee will
accept all articles of interested participants that are in line with
the described themes and satisfy strict requirements regarding
to the scientific and professional level of contributions.
Submision of abstracts before: January 10, 2013
Acceptance of abstracts: January 15, 2013
Submission of full papers: March 1, 2013
The official languages of the Symposium are English and Croatian.
Oral presentation and discussion will be in English only
with the translation to Croatian language. Presenters must be
able to participate in discussions in English. All accepted papers
will be published in the Book of Proceedings that will be
prepared and distributed to the participants at the registration
desk of the Symposium.
GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS
In order to reach required technical level of submissions all participants
are requested to follow the guidelines given below for
the preparation of abstracts for papers. The following information
are needed:
• ITA Croatia 2013 Symposium “Tunnelling in Mediterranean
Region“, May 7-8, 2013, Porec, Croatia
• Full name and full address of the author for correspondance
purposes including E-mail address
• Title of the contribution (maximum 60 characters)
• Specific topic (as above) to which the abstract is submitted
• Keywords related to the article content ( max. 6 )
The abstracts should be in English, with the maximum length of
300 words. Abstracts should be submitted in „Word“ or PDF format
and shall not include any illustration. The abstracts should
be submitted by Email to the Symposium Secretariat: tanja.ra-
bar@hubitg.com or uploaded to the Symposium web site before
specified deadline. The receipt of each abstract submission
will be confirmed by the Symposium Secretariat. Accepted abstracts
should use the form of sample papers for the presentation
in the proceedings. Authors of accepted abstracts will receive
guidelines, including sample papers, for the preparation
of their own papers. All papers will be printed in full length in
the symposium proceedings and presented additionally in pdf
format on USB Stick.
Abstracts and papers shall be written in English. During the
symposium official translation will be provided to Croatian language.

symposium.

The commercial exhibition will provide the opportunity to the

the market of SE Europe region with the average price of 300,00
€/m2. Companies interested in exhibiting or sponsoring are invited
