Amazing...Outstanding...Just the BEST! T H E T I T A N V I E W PAGE 4 Secondary Art Educator of the Year for Georgia—Ms. Booth! Jessica Booth from Northview High School was named the Georgia Secondary Art Educator of the Year and went on to win the Southeastern Secondary Division Educator of the Year for NAEA. Four of the twelve Georgia Art Education Association Art Educators of the Year are from the Fulton County School’s art team. All were honored at a gala dinner on Nov. 7 at the Georgia Art Education Association Conference and three were honored again in Minneapolis in April as the National Art Educator of the Year in their respective divisions for the National Art Education Association. The number of these art educators of the year from Fulton County Schools illustrates the extremely high quality of the County art education team. Ms. Ritter Wins Educator Award Northview High School’s Honors Night was extra special to language arts teacher Judy Ritter this year. Ms. Ritter was honored with the Coca Cola Distinguished Educator Award. This award is presented by students who have been recognized as Coca Cola Scholars to a teacher who has inspired them during their high school experience. Coca Cola Scholar Jonathan Hsieh chose to honor Ms. Ritter with the following dedication on Honors Night. ―For your desire to see your students excel in the classroom, for your dedication to community activism and involvement in IMPACT, for being a great mentor, both inside and outside of the classroom, and for all of the time that you have invested in me, I proudly designate you as my Educator of Distinction.‖ Ms. Ritter says that this award is incredibly meaningful since it comes from a student, and she will cherish this honor forever. JROTC Cadets Among Nation’s Finest Northview JROTC Cadets represented our school with honor at the George C. Marshall JROTC Leadership Symposium in Lexington, Virginia, the home of Virginia Military Institute as well as Washington and Lee University. Our cadets were among the 128 students selected from over 300,000 JROTC cadets worldwide to participate in this event. Cadets Matt Nelson, Chris Potts, Scott Barlow, and Sam Wolfson were recognized by the Marshall Foundation and the United States Army Cadet Command as being the best of the best. Their selection placed them in very elite company among the top 1% of all JROTC cadets, another Northview first! In addition, members of the Titan Battalion were selected over thirty-three competing schools to serve as the color guard for the closing ceremony. They were also privileged with the opportunity to brief the National Director of Army JROTC on their mentorship program with State Bridge Elementary School and their class project of developing an instructional DVD on cadet academic portfolios. During the symposium, students were exposed to history through guided tours, learned best practices through peer interaction, and participated in seminars focused on leadership principles established by George C. Marshall, the soldier, statesman and peacemaker. Students attending the symposium received two college credit hours for attending the event, developing presentations, and submitting reflective notes.
