<strong>Northview</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong>’s German Department has had one of its most successful years yet!<br />
2008-2009 was full of activities and experiences that colleges look for in student achievement,<br />
both academically and personally.<br />
German students participated in or won:<br />
Declamation Contest, a poetry recital at Clemson<br />
State German Convention, a plethora of competitions offered to German<br />
students statewide in Covington, Ga.<br />
FLAG competition, a high visibility speaking contest for all World Languages<br />
around the state<br />
Governor’s Honors Program<br />
<strong>Northview</strong> <strong>Titan</strong> 1 st , a Langenscheidt Award winner<br />
40 students participated in taking the National German Test.<br />

National German Test: German National Honor Society Induction:<br />
Victoria Hartmann 98 Audrey Creamer, Zach Ruege, Cassandra Buru,<br />
Justian Meyer<br />
German students traveled to Helen, Georgia for Oktoberfest, American style and<br />
taught German at Wilson Creek with French students, an annual event that always<br />
inspires students to become teachers! <strong>The</strong>y also sang holiday carols in classrooms, German style.<br />
<strong>The</strong> German Club and National German Honor Society activities and community outreach traveled beyond<br />
<strong>Northview</strong>’s borders or within:<br />
Collected glasses for “Give the Gift of Sight” (40 pairs)<br />
Collected canned goods for North Fulton Charities’ Pantry (800 cans)<br />
VOLUME 7, ISSUE 3<br />
Took an active part in the Relay for Life on the World Languages Team, helping to collect over $3000 and keep<br />
the team on the track for 12 hours! (Brrrr!, yawn)<br />
Sponsored a family for the holidays<br />
For our school:<br />
We sang holiday songs and gave out hot chocolate at the bus canopy<br />
Gave away prizes and held contests during National German Week<br />
Hosted a donut breakfast to the class who collected the most glasses for our<br />
drive Mrs. Laurie Rogers’ 2 nd period<br />
Hosted a table of fine German cuisine during International Night with the<br />
help of Kurt’s Restaurant<br />
Thank-you especially to the PTSA Mini-Grant committee for contributing<br />
$120 to the German Classroom library for the 2 nd year in a row!<br />
Thank you for supporting the German Department and all that we do. We<br />
couldn’t do it without you!<br />
