T H E T I T A N V I E W PAGE 10 Chorus The Northview Choral Department, under the direction of Barbara Moras, had a very busy and productive spring semester. The Pre-Festival Concert, held in March featured three choirs performing two selections in preparation for the Large Group Performance Evaluation in April at Grady High School. All three groups scored exceptionally well at this event. Chamber Choir received Excellent ratings in Performance and a Superior rating in Sight Reading. Concert Choir received Superior ratings in Performance and a Superior rating in Sight Reading. The Womens Ensemble scored straight Superior ratings from all judges in Performance and Sight Reading. Also in March, the Northview Choral Department hosted the Annual Cluster Concert featuring choirs from River Trail Middle School, Autrey Mill Middle School, Findlay Oaks, Wilson Creek, Barnwell, Medlock Bridge, Dolvin and State Bridge Elementary Schools. The concert was held in the main gym to a standing room only audience. The concert concluded with all singers performing “Under the Sea” from the Little Mermaid. Two students participated in the All-State Chorus in Savannah in February: Eleanor Creagh & Meghan McLynn. Both girls received scores of 100% at the second audition! The annual musical, “Camelot” co-directed by Ms. Moras and Paul McClain was held in March and was a huge success! Several chorus students, including Jenny Tortoriello as Guinevere, were members of the cast and crew. This was the first time since Northview opened that we had sold out audiences! Chorus and orchestra students travelled to Orlando, FL during Spring Break to perform at Universal Studios. The featured songs were “Be My Baby,” “Motown Forever” and “Jailhouse Rock” as well as other selections arranged by Tim Aucoin, who also played bass, with Ms. Moras on piano and Jeff Macko on drums. Three students sang the National Anthem (Theater Continued From Page 9) New International Thespian Society and Improv Club Officers for 2009-2010 For the 2009-2010 school year, the officers of Troupe 6577 of ITS are: President – Tobi Aremu Vice President – Danielle Meinert Secretary – Izzy Kapik Treasurer – Rachel Pelletier Clerk – Stephen King Theatre Tsar – Patrick Brunson Conference Representatives – Lauren Martin and Julia Tarter The officers for Northview’s Improv Club for the 2009 -2010 school year are: President – Patrick Brunson Vice President – Izzy Kapik Upcoming Auditions and Performances Information regarding our summer play and our 2009 -2010 season will be available on the Northview website after May 15. at the Southeastern Lacrosse Tournament in April: MacKenzie Perpich, Justin Stillabower and Sarah Stipe. Chamber Choir student, Alice Chen, along with Daniel Li, won First Place in the annual talent show with their piano duet, “CS Theme and Variations”. The Spring Concert was a major event. The extravaganza featured all choirs as well as special guests performing a wide variety of choral music including madrigals, spirituals and medleys from “Wicked,” “Hairspray” and “Enchanted.” Highlights of the concert included a duet of “May You Always Have a Song” sung by Laurel Pass and Ms. Moras. Ms. Moras also sang “For Good” with Molly Bernstein. The concert concluded with “You’ll Never Walk Alone” sung by all chorus students and conducted by Mr. Zervakos. www.northviewhigh.com VOLUME 7, ISSUE 3 Fantastic Year for Northview’s Math Teams The 2008 – 2009 school year has been a banner year for Northview’s math teams. This year, With Alpharetta High School, Northview co-hosted the North Fulton Invitational Mathematics Tournament in September. The students then hosted the first Titan Invitational Math Tournament that was held in January. Approximately 125 students from 16 high schools participated on that day. We are looking forward to hosting again next year. Our Junior Varsity team placed very well in the tournaments they attended, which included a 1 st place showing at the Creekview tournament and a 2 nd place at the Georgia Tech High School Mathematics Competition. Their season culminated with a 2 nd place showing at the Junior Varsity State Tournament held in March. Northview’s Varsity team performed extremely well this year, winning 1 st place at tournaments held at Cobb County, Creekview and Greater Atlanta Christian School. There were also several 2 nd place finishes, including the University of Georgia tournament and the Rockdale County tournament. Their season ended with a 2 nd place finish at the Georgia Council of Teachers of Mathematics State Tournament held in April. Northview was also very well represented through individual competitions held throughout the year. Based on scores from the American Mathematics Competition, 13 students were selected to take the American Invitational Mathematics Examination. Two students, Sitan Chen and Benjamin Hu, were selected to take the qualifying test for the United States Mathematics Olympiad. Sitan and Benjamin were 2 of 11 students in the state of Georgia chosen to participate. Also, through two rounds of the Kennesaw State University Mathematics Competition, Northview students had 7 of the top 35 scores in the state. Video Broadcast Production Program The Northview High School Broadcast/Video Production program has completed another successful year of media festival competition. The following students have projects moving on to the International Student Media Festival: Balance Your Life PSA Jordan Graves Color Your World PSA Jordan Graves Mac Dills: Fisherman Brandon Burton and Jordan Graves Georgia, I‟ll Take You In Jordan Graves and Melissa Burstein Bright Side Dave Randolph, Jessica Roberts, Davis Allen, Allison Wachs, Taylor Lovelace, Mark Fillhaber, John Ledford, Tyler Cooper, Tyler Cook, Austin Brown and Kelsey Widem Good luck to all of these students. The results for the ISMF will be announced in September. The 2009-2010 Student Producers for the BVP program were announced recently. The following students will be leading the production teams next year: Jessica Roberts, Ashley Foxx, Erik Singleton, Jenna Blakeslee, Alison Wachs, Michele Gelbar, and Sarah Terry.
