Description:
The main objective was to update teachers' skills and knowledge so that they make
best use of the new opportunities created by information and communication
technologies to support learning and teaching, and competence development. In
relation to the subjects taught by the teachers involved and regarding the technical
equipment of the partner schools, the project focussed on how to use multimedia
devices (e.g. interactive digital whiteboards), how to use the internet for creating
teaching materials and aids, which computer programs can be used during lessons,
how to teach using e-learning, make lessons more attractive and the role of ICT in
self-learning, search of an optimal balanced mixture of computer-based and traditional
learning methods and finally how ICT can support headmasters' management.
The promotion of digital media equipment enabled the participating schools to
purchase necessary modern technology for teaching and learning with a focus on
digital interactive whiteboards. The new methods tried and approved by single
teachers aroused interest among the colleagues of the participating as well as of
surrounding schools.
As the (in-service) teacher training institutes of both regions were leading
partners of the project all results will have a direct and enduring impact on their
courses and programs. Due to the positive experiences during the project the
participating teachers, headmasters and personnel of the central institutions
are more capable to convince decision makers of the advantages of self-guided
learning with digital media and the necessity of appropriate equipment as well as
organisational and structural procedures. The results were published and distributed
among schools and other educational organizations in the partner regions and it is
available on their website.
