Self – evaluation in schools for better education

Self-Evaluation of Schools is very important to raise the quality of learning and lies
at the heart of well managed and effective school improvement. It is based on
evidence about the standards achieved by pupils, the quality of teaching and the
effectiveness of leadership and management. The use of attainment evidence
enables head teachers to be more confident in the identification of priorities and
targets for improvement. It is also essential to provide the baseline from which
progress can be measured, both in terms of previous best and when making
comparisons with other schools.
The “Comenius Project SELF-EVA” puts the self-evaluation done by the pupils in the
centre of its activities. The “SELF-EVA-Project-Team” will test and prove: how selfevaluation
done by the pupils will work, how self-evaluation can be done by
questionnaires, how self-evaluation can be done and transferred via computers and
how self-evaluation will lead to better quality in schools.
The outcomes of the project can to be downloaded from the projects portal and
distributed on a CD-ROM; more specifically, there is a calendar for pupils, in which on
each sheet for each month a specific main topic of self-evaluation is explained, a short
handbook in each of the participating schools, how self-evaluation will help during
the learning process and how everybody can participate easily, extensive report with
a collection of all the materials and questionnaires.
