Description:
The project was based on the desire wish to make children's thoughts, opinions
and imagination visible for teachers and peers. Following the assumption that
everyone has the right to be seen and heard in a democratic society, children should
learn about concepts such as freedom, rights and obligations.
All activities aimed at creating in the pupils with strong moral personalities,
autonomy and critical skills. Throughout the diverse activities, children had the
opportunity to express their opinions (no opinion is stupid or inferior), to listen to, to
talk with, to meet argument with argument, to explain decisions with concrete
reasons.
Among the products there were project newsletters, a publication about Democracy
made with the direct input of the pupils and a Tool Booklet for Democracy and
participation in Kindergarten and at School which contains observation forms,
interview guide, questionnaire for teachers to use in the future (directly down able).
Throughout and after the end of the project the participating schools experienced that
the project has influenced their lives and changed attitudes within the staff. All
involved partners agreed that the project offered a unique opportunity to understand
other cultures, exchange experiences and learn to work together across borders and
language barriers.
