Natural Capital
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
1. Preservation of resources (goods and services)
offered by the component elements of the natural
capital: air, water, soil, flora and fauna.
2. Increasing environmental indicators (air, water,
soil, noise) according to EU standards and legislation.
3. Reducing impact on the environment by
implementing an integrated system for waste
management.
4. Improving the quality of the urban green area
and creating new green and recreational areas;
increasing the overall surface of green areas in Bistrita
municipality.
5. Increasing forest surfaces with a view to
protection recreation in areas around Bistrita
municipality.
6. Increasing awareness and degree of
involvement by inhabitants, especially youth, in
protecting and preserving the environment through
ecological education programmes and activities.
II. EVALUATION OF EXISTING SOCIO-ECONOMIC
SYSTEM
II.1 THE ECONOMIC SYSTEM
II.1.1. General Presentation
Industrial production in 2003 by the main economic
agents in Bistrita municipality grew by 4.7%,
compared with 2002. At the same time, work
productivity (efficiency factor) for local industry
increased by 18.9% in 2003 compared with 2002. The
growth was due to the increase in production and
reduction in the average number of employees by
11.9% compared with the previous year.
Despite this, the basis for the creation of 3,500 jobs
was established in 2003 by Leoni Wiring System SRL
and Roseyarns SRL, with the strong support of the
local council and the mayoralty. In 2003 alone, these
companies hired over 1,000 employees. Currently, the
number of employees at Leoni Wiring System is close
to 2,500.
