- Monitoring <strong>of</strong> the PM10 indicator started only in 2003<br />

when 37 measurements were made at the sampling<br />

point and 10 concentrations higher than MAC<br />

(Maximum Allowed Concentration) were recorded<br />

(with a frequency <strong>of</strong> 26.3%); the maximum recorded<br />

value was 0.099 mg/mc (in May); the average<br />

recorded value in 2003 was 0.04313 mg/mc – a slight<br />

breech <strong>of</strong> the annual allowed value <strong>for</strong> human safety<br />

<strong>of</strong> (according to the Order <strong>of</strong> Minister <strong>of</strong> Environment<br />

592/2002) 0.04 mg/m 3 .<br />

Quality <strong>of</strong> drinking water<br />

According to Law 458/8.07.2002, the Public Health<br />

Department <strong>of</strong> Bistrita-Nasaud County per<strong>for</strong>ms<br />

supervision, inspection and monitoring <strong>of</strong> drinking<br />

water quality. The supervision is done by sampling<br />

and analysing water from the distribution network<br />

twice a week at 8 dispersed sampling points situated<br />

within range <strong>of</strong> the municipality, and daily at the<br />

sampling point DSP. Water quality is deemed safe if<br />

the number <strong>of</strong> the annual samples with deviations in<br />

quality is under 5% <strong>of</strong> the overall analysed samples.<br />
