Thank you for your interest in covering
University of Louisville football. The University of
Louisville Sports Information Office has produced
the 2007 football media guide to assist you in the
coverage of the Cardinals. Please feel free to contact
any member of our staff with questions, requests or
concerns. We look forward to working with you
during the 2007 football season.
COVERING LOUISVILLE
WEEKLY PRESS CONFERENCE
Head coach Steve Kragthorpe hosts a weekly press
conference with selected players each Monday in the
recruiting lounge of the Howard Schnellenberger
Football Complex at 1:30 p.m. Lunch will be served
at 1:00 p.m. If media has a specific player request for
the press conference, please let Rocco Gasparro know
at 502-852-0102 or by email at
rocco.gasparro@louisville.edu before Monday. If a
player has a class conflict another time can be
arranged.
OTHER AVAILABILITY
Steve Kragthorpe: In addition to Louisville’s media
press conference, Kragthorpe will be available
following practice on Wednesday. He will also be
accessible on the Monday’s BIG EAST
Teleconference at 11:10 a.m. Kragthorpe is available
to out-of-town media on Tuesday from 2:00-2:30 p.m.
Players: All player interviews must be arranged
through the University of Louisville Sports
Information Office and football contact Rocco
Gasparro. During the season, U of L players are
available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays following
practice. No player interviews will be arranged after
Wednesday on the week of the game.
PRACTICE
All practices will be closed to the media and fans
except for the first 15 minutes. Please contact Rocco
Gasparro for permission to attend practice.
Photographers and videographers are permitted to
shoot only the first three periods of practice.
Credential Policy
Credentials and working space
for media members are issued
at the sole and exclusive
discretion of the Louisville Sports
Information Office and Kenny Klein,
Director, based on the following
guidelines.
1. Originating radio and television
personnel conducting a live broadcast.
2. Daily newspapers regularly covering
U of L, the current opponent or another
BIG EAST opponent. Wire services,
regional and national publications are also
awarded consideration.
3. Non-originating radio and television
personnel producing reports on the game.
Only local radio stations with full-time
sports directors will receive consideration.
4. Officially recognized U of L student
publications or student electronic media
outlets.
5. Non-daily newspapers or publications
reporting on the game.

GAMEDAY INFORMATION
WORKING CREDENTIALS
To obtain credentials for a University of
Louisville home contest, contact the Sports
Information Department well in advance of the game.
Due to space constraints, credentials will be limited
to working media only.
If media credentials are not picked up in advance,
they will be available for pickup at the West Ticket
Booth located outside Gate 7 of Papa John’s Cardinal
Stadium. Media should enter through Gate 8 to gain
access to elevators for the press box. NO
CREDENTIALS WILL BE MAILED.

Media members wishing to cover U of L on the road
are encouraged to contact Klein at least two weeks prior
to the contest to secure credentials.
PRESS PARKING
Press parking is limited and will be provided
on a first-come, first-served basis as available.
Contact the Louisville Sports Information Office
regarding details and directions to the press parking
areas.
PHOTOGRAPHERS
All photographers must wear a sideline pass and
armband to be allowed on the playing field. NCAA rules
limit shooting to outside the restraining line around the
field and outside designated team areas (between the
30-yard lines). Passes can be acquired before the game,
on the field or in the press box during the game.
VISITING RADIO STATIONS
Permission to broadcast a U of L game from Papa
John’s Cardinal Stadium should be requested through
Kenny Klein. Stations must order their own phone lines
through the Louisville office of BellSouth (800/477-
4459), listing Klein as the contact person for placement
of the line. A booth, which comfortably accommodates
five, is available for the official station of the visiting
team.
With the exception of beat writers and regular U of
L media, all passes are issued on a game-by-game basis
with consideration of available working space.
Passes are non-transferable and are subject to
immediate revocation if transferred to non-working
members or unapproved personnel.
The University of Louisville and the NCAA
prohibit the issuance of credentials to outlets or
representatives of an organization that regularly
publishes gambling information, such as “tout” or “tip
sheets.”
Credentials are issued to web sites that are
affiliated with web sites for national or regional
television and news media organizations., e.g. USA
Today OnLine, ESPN, CNN/SI and CBS Sportsline,
etc., for institutions that are conference members and
non-conference opponents, and for the BIG EAST
Conference.
WEB SITES
The University of Louisville reserves the right
to deny media credentials to any individual whose
web site is not affiliated with an official news
gathering organization or publication. Credentials
will be issued to official on-line services of national,
over-the-air or cable networks or established
publications, which are staffed by full-time
employees (i.e. ESPN.com, SI.com,
CBSsportsline.com, etc.) and then with a maximum
of one credential.
Credentials will not be granted to any on-line
agency operating sites that are in any way associated
with gambling or to “freelance” or “fan-based” sites
that are not associated with a legitimate news
gathering organization or publication.
Membership in a writer’s association (i.e.
FWAA) does not automatically qualify an agency
for credentials.
Additionally, online services are prohibited
from “real time”transmission of Louisville athletic
events.
STEVE KRAGTHORPE ON THE AIR
STEVE KRAGTHORPE RADIO SHOW
Affliates on the Louisville Radio Network carry
the Steve Kragthorpe Show each Wednesday night at
7:00 p.m. The show originates from the Tumbleweed
Restaurant on the River and is open to the public
with a reservation.
STEVE KRAGTHORPE TELEVISION
SHOW
The weekly Steve Kragthorpe Television Show
can be seen each Saturday at 9:30 a.m. on WHAS-11
TV. The half-hour program, produced by Debbie
Harbsmeier and hosted by Ari Wolfe, features head
coach Steve Kragthorpe, player and coach features,
highlights of previous games and previews of
upcoming opponents.
Other Louisville Policies
Web sites that sponsor “message boards” or
“chat rooms” are eligible for credentials.
The University of Louisville reserves the right
to deny media credentials to any individual whose
web site is not affiliated with a recognized newsgathering
organization.
All persons picking up credentials will be
required to furnish positive identification. All
credentials are non-transferable.
NOTE: Spouses, dates, non-workers and anyone
under the age of 18 are not permitted in the working
press area.
