Thank you for your interest in covering<br />
University of Louisville football. The University of<br />
Louisville Sports Information Office has produced<br />
the 2007 football media guide to assist you in the<br />
coverage of the Cardinals. Please feel free to contact<br />
any member of our staff with questions, requests or<br />
concerns. We look forward to working with you<br />
during the 2007 football season.<br />
COVERING LOUISVILLE<br />
WEEKLY PRESS CONFERENCE<br />
Head coach Steve Kragthorpe hosts a weekly press<br />
conference with selected players each Monday in the<br />
recruiting lounge of the Howard Schnellenberger<br />
Football Complex at 1:30 p.m. Lunch will be served<br />
at 1:00 p.m. If media has a specific player request for<br />
the press conference, please let Rocco Gasparro know<br />
at 502-852-0102 or by email at<br />
rocco.gasparro@louisville.edu before Monday. If a<br />
player has a class conflict another time can be<br />
arranged.<br />
OTHER AVAILABILITY<br />
Steve Kragthorpe: In addition to Louisville’s media<br />
press conference, Kragthorpe will be available<br />
following practice on Wednesday. He will also be<br />
accessible on the Monday’s BIG EAST<br />
Teleconference at 11:10 a.m. Kragthorpe is available<br />
to out-of-town media on Tuesday from 2:00-2:30 p.m.<br />
<strong>Player</strong>s: All player interviews must be arranged<br />
through the University of Louisville Sports<br />
Information Office and football contact Rocco<br />
Gasparro. During the season, U of L players are<br />
available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays following<br />
practice. No player interviews will be arranged after<br />
Wednesday on the week of the game.<br />
PRACTICE<br />
All practices will be closed to the media and fans<br />
except for the first 15 minutes. Please contact Rocco<br />
Gasparro for permission to attend practice.<br />
Photographers and videographers are permitted to<br />
shoot only the first three periods of practice.<br />
Credential Policy<br />
Credentials and working space<br />
for media members are issued<br />
at the sole and exclusive<br />
discretion of the Louisville Sports<br />
Information Office and Kenny Klein,<br />
Director, based on the following<br />
guidelines.<br />
1. Originating radio and television<br />
personnel conducting a live broadcast.<br />
2. Daily newspapers regularly covering<br />
U of L, the current opponent or another<br />
BIG EAST opponent. Wire services,<br />
regional and national publications are also<br />
awarded consideration.<br />
3. Non-originating radio and television<br />
personnel producing reports on the game.<br />
Only local radio stations with full-time<br />
sports directors will receive consideration.<br />
4. Officially recognized U of L student<br />
publications or student electronic media<br />
outlets.<br />
5. Non-daily newspapers or publications<br />
reporting on the game.<br />

GAMEDAY INFORMATION<br />
WORKING CREDENTIALS<br />
To obtain credentials for a University of<br />
Louisville home contest, contact the Sports<br />
Information Department well in advance of the game.<br />
Due to space constraints, credentials will be limited<br />
to working media only.<br />
If media credentials are not picked up in advance,<br />
they will be available for pickup at the West Ticket<br />
Booth located outside Gate 7 of Papa John’s Cardinal<br />
Stadium. Media should enter through Gate 8 to gain<br />
access to elevators for the press box. NO<br />
CREDENTIALS WILL BE MAILED.<br />

Media members wishing to cover U of L on the road<br />
are encouraged to contact Klein at least two weeks prior<br />
to the contest to secure credentials.<br />
PRESS PARKING<br />
Press parking is limited and will be provided<br />
on a first-<strong>com</strong>e, first-served basis as available.<br />
Contact the Louisville Sports Information Office<br />
regarding details and directions to the press parking<br />
areas.<br />
PHOTOGRAPHERS<br />
All photographers must wear a sideline pass and<br />
armband to be allowed on the playing field. NCAA rules<br />
limit shooting to outside the restraining line around the<br />
field and outside designated team areas (between the<br />
30-yard lines). Passes can be acquired before the game,<br />
on the field or in the press box during the game.<br />
VISITING RADIO STATIONS<br />
Permission to broadcast a U of L game from Papa<br />
John’s Cardinal Stadium should be requested through<br />
Kenny Klein. Stations must order their own phone lines<br />
through the Louisville office of BellSouth (800/477-<br />
4459), listing Klein as the contact person for placement<br />
of the line. A booth, which <strong>com</strong>fortably ac<strong>com</strong>modates<br />
five, is available for the official station of the visiting<br />
team.<br />
With the exception of beat writers and regular U of<br />
L media, all passes are issued on a game-by-game basis<br />
with consideration of available working space.<br />
Passes are non-transferable and are subject to<br />
immediate revocation if transferred to non-working<br />
members or unapproved personnel.<br />
The University of Louisville and the NCAA<br />
prohibit the issuance of credentials to outlets or<br />
representatives of an organization that regularly<br />
publishes gambling information, such as “tout” or “tip<br />
sheets.”<br />
Credentials are issued to web sites that are<br />
affiliated with web sites for national or regional<br />
television and news media organizations., e.g. USA<br />
Today OnLine, ESPN, CNN/SI and CBS Sportsline,<br />
etc., for institutions that are conference members and<br />
non-conference opponents, and for the BIG EAST<br />
Conference.<br />
WEB SITES<br />
The University of Louisville reserves the right<br />
to deny media credentials to any individual whose<br />
web site is not affiliated with an official news<br />
gathering organization or publication. Credentials<br />
will be issued to official on-line services of national,<br />
over-the-air or cable networks or established<br />
publications, which are staffed by full-time<br />
employees (i.e. ESPN.<strong>com</strong>, SI.<strong>com</strong>,<br />
CBSsportsline.<strong>com</strong>, etc.) and then with a maximum<br />
of one credential.<br />
Credentials will not be granted to any on-line<br />
agency operating sites that are in any way associated<br />
with gambling or to “freelance” or “fan-based” sites<br />
that are not associated with a legitimate news<br />
gathering organization or publication.<br />
Membership in a writer’s association (i.e.<br />
FWAA) does not automatically qualify an agency<br />
for credentials.<br />
Additionally, online services are prohibited<br />
from “real time”transmission of Louisville athletic<br />
events.<br />
STEVE KRAGTHORPE ON THE AIR<br />
STEVE KRAGTHORPE RADIO SHOW<br />
Affliates on the Louisville Radio Network carry<br />
the Steve Kragthorpe Show each Wednesday night at<br />
7:00 p.m. The show originates from the Tumbleweed<br />
Restaurant on the River and is open to the public<br />
with a reservation.<br />
STEVE KRAGTHORPE TELEVISION<br />
SHOW<br />
The weekly Steve Kragthorpe Television Show<br />
can be seen each Saturday at 9:30 a.m. on WHAS-11<br />
TV. The half-hour program, produced by Debbie<br />
Harbsmeier and hosted by Ari Wolfe, features head<br />
coach Steve Kragthorpe, player and coach features,<br />
highlights of previous games and previews of<br />
up<strong>com</strong>ing opponents.<br />
Other Louisville Policies<br />
Web sites that sponsor “message boards” or<br />
“chat rooms” are eligible for credentials.<br />
The University of Louisville reserves the right<br />
to deny media credentials to any individual whose<br />
web site is not affiliated with a recognized newsgathering<br />
organization.<br />
All persons picking up credentials will be<br />
required to furnish positive identification. All<br />
credentials are non-transferable.<br />
NOTE: Spouses, dates, non-workers and anyone<br />
under the age of 18 are not permitted in the working<br />
press area.
