Julie Hermann enters her 10th year in athletic<br />
administration at U of L serving as senior associate<br />
athletic director and senior woman administrator.<br />
Hermann’s primary responsibilites are<br />
supervising the department’s athletic teams with a<br />
special emphasis on Olympic Sports, Sports<br />
Medicine, Strength and Conditioning, Student<br />
Development including Lifeskills, the Performance<br />
Team systems and the CardsCare and CardsFIT<br />
<strong>com</strong>munity outreach programs, while providing<br />
oversight of the Olga Peers Academic unit, Development and Marketing departments.<br />
Hermann has served on many <strong>com</strong>munity boards, including Metro Parks,<br />
Women 4 Women, YMCA, the Louisville Sports Commission and currently serves<br />
on the boards of the Frazier Rehab Institute, the Kentucky Sports Commission and<br />
the Commission on the Status of Women. She has served on numerous conference<br />
<strong>com</strong>mittees as well as the Division I NCAA Women’s Volleyball Committee,<br />
operating as the chair.<br />
Prior to joining the U of L staff, she spent one year as an assistant coach for USA<br />
Volleyball, helping the National Team to a silver medal finish at the World<br />
University Games in 1997. Before joining the National Team, Hermann served as<br />
the head women’s volleyball coach at the University of Tennessee for six seasons.<br />
Under her watch, the Lady Vol volleyball squad improved more than 150 places in<br />
the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the<br />
first time in a decade.<br />
Prior to her time at Tennessee, Hermann spent one season at Northern Arizona<br />
where she was hired by current U of L AD Tom Jurich. Hermann earned the top post<br />
at NAU following two seasons as an assistant at the University of Georgia where she<br />
helped restore the Bulldogs program to national status. Georgia recorded a 70-16<br />
mark in her two seasons and earned a spot in the Top 20.<br />
Hermann opened her collegiate coaching career at Wyoming where she spent<br />
two years helping the Cowgirls to the NCAA Tournament and a final eight finish.<br />
An All-Big-Eight volleyball player at the University of Nebraska from 1981-84,<br />
Hermann led the Huskers to four conference championships, four tournament<br />
championships, four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and a pair of top<br />
five finishes. She was honored as the FCA College Athlete of the Year and was an<br />
FCA national platform speaker.<br />

John Carns is in<br />

Carns is responsible for the development and<br />
implementation of the University’s policies and<br />
procedures in accordance with NCAA, BIG EAST<br />
and University regulations.<br />
Carns joined the U of L staff in August of ‘98<br />
after nearly two years assisting in the <strong>com</strong>pliance<br />
office at the University of Miami (Fla.).<br />
Prior to his roles in athletics, Carns worked in<br />
government for the City of Binghamton (N.Y.). He<br />
was a <strong>com</strong>munity relations assistant for the mayor’s<br />
office (1986-88), an economic development assistant<br />
for two years (1988-90), the Highway Safety<br />
Program Director (1990-91) and a risk manager/<br />
paralegal of the Office of the Corporation Counsel<br />
(1991-93).<br />
Carns earned a B.A. in Communications at State<br />
University College at Oswego (N.Y.) in 1985. He<br />
graduated with a juris doctor from the Thomas Cooley<br />
Law School in Lansing, Mich., in 1996, the same year<br />
he was admitted to the New York State Bar. He also<br />
earned a master’s degree in sports administration at St.<br />
Thomas University in Miami, Fla. in 1997.<br />
A native of Binghamton, N.Y., Carns and his wife<br />
Patti have two children: Lukas John and Payton Ann.<br />

Cautilli oversees the Cardinals' licensing, facilities<br />
management, U of L's agreement with adidas, and the<br />
Cardinals' ticket operations.<br />
Prior to joining the U of L staff, Cautilli served as<br />
assistant athletics director for business affairs and<br />
corporate relations at Saint Louis University. He also<br />

Kevin Miller, a veteran administrator in the Cardinal<br />
athletics department for the past 21 years, has served<br />
as Senior Associate Athletic Director since 2003. He<br />
served as Associate Athletic Director for Internal<br />
Operations for 11 years after operating six years as<br />
assistant athletic director for business at U of L.<br />
Miller oversees the athletic department financial and<br />
personnel operations while also supervising football,<br />
men’s basketball and baseball. He also oversees<br />
facilities and equipment, game management and internal<br />
policies and procedures. He currently serveson<br />
the Cardinal Club Advisory Board of Directors.<br />
Since joining the Athletic Department, Miller has helped implement the long-term<br />
Financial Management Plan and Gender Equity Plan for the Athletic Association. He<br />
served on two NCAA Certification Steering Committees (1996-97 and 2002-03) and<br />
assisted in negotiating the Cards’ local media and Nelligan Sports Marketing agreements.<br />
Miller served as the athletic department representative on U of L's NCAA self-study<br />
steering <strong>com</strong>mittee. He has served as tournament manager for the 1992, 1993 and 1995<br />
Metro Conference Tournaments; 2001 and 2003 C-USA tournaments; as well as the<br />
First and Second Rounds of the 1991 NCAA Tournament hosted by U of L. He helped<br />
establish the U of L Student-Athlete Advisory Board in 1994.<br />
Miller worked 11 years in the U of L controller’s office prior to joining the athletic<br />
department. He served in various capacities with the University Credit Union from<br />
1977, including six years as a member of the union’s Board of Directors. Miller has also<br />
been active with recreational sports programs on a volunteer basis in the Middletown<br />
suburb in which he lives.<br />
A native of Lebanon Junction, Ky., Miller earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting<br />
from Western Kentucky University in 1973.<br />
Miller and his wife, Betty, have two children -- son Jeremy and daughter Jennifer<br />
Buckingham. Jennifer and husband David — both U of L graduates — have one<br />
daughter, Riley. Jeremy and his wife Meghanne have one son, Ethan.<br />

Cautilli previously crossed paths with U of L<br />
Director of Athletics Tom Jurich when he worked as<br />
assistant athletics director for business operations at<br />
Colorado State for three years (1995-98).<br />
A 1981 graduate of Bucknell University, Cautilli<br />
earned his master's degree in sport management in<br />
1984 from New York University. He returned to<br />
Bucknell in 1985 as Athletic Business Coordinator at<br />
his alma mater. He was promoted to assistant athletic<br />
director for business services and internal operations in<br />
1989. He held that position until moving to a similar<br />
position at Idaho State in 1992 before joining the<br />
Colorado State staff. He and his wife Marla have two<br />
children: Alli and Petey.<br />
