language learners used more first language based strategies than <strong>the</strong> children learners.<br />

On <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r hand, <strong>the</strong> children learners used more second language based strategies<br />

<strong>to</strong> communicate than <strong>the</strong> adult learners. What’s more, she revealed that <strong>the</strong> strategy<br />

application for describing objects was more effective for adults than children.<br />

In 1984, Tarone’s study found that those students in classroom settings<br />

<strong>of</strong>fering more natural input established a higher level <strong>of</strong> strategic competence than<br />

students in ordinary classrooms, who used only a limited number <strong>of</strong> mostly<br />

unsophisticated communication strategies. He implied in his study that teachers<br />

should train <strong>the</strong> students <strong>to</strong> use communication strategies with <strong>the</strong> immersion classes.<br />

Faerch and Kasper (1984) found that advanced English learners were likely <strong>to</strong><br />

experience problems in <strong>the</strong>ir interlanguage in part simply because <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

communicative aspirations <strong>of</strong>ten increase with <strong>the</strong>ir developing interlanguage<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>iciency. However, <strong>the</strong>se advanced English learners needed <strong>to</strong> use communication<br />

strategies in an unobvious way because <strong>the</strong>y tended <strong>to</strong> establish <strong>the</strong>ir less clearly<br />

marked foreigner roles. Also, <strong>the</strong>y tended <strong>to</strong> pay more attention <strong>to</strong> face-losing issue<br />

as well as <strong>the</strong> perceptions <strong>of</strong> embarrassment when communicating in English as a<br />

foreign language.<br />

Paribakht (1985) reported a study, which he cooperated with 20 adult subjects,<br />

and conducted an empirical study at <strong>the</strong> University <strong>of</strong> Toron<strong>to</strong> in 1981. This study<br />

revealed:<br />

First, <strong>the</strong> typology <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> strategies, which was developed, was based on <strong>the</strong><br />

type <strong>of</strong> information included in <strong>the</strong> communication strategies. Second, <strong>the</strong><br />

subject’s point <strong>of</strong> view was <strong>the</strong> basis for <strong>the</strong> identification <strong>of</strong> his or her<br />

communication strategies. Third, consideration in <strong>the</strong> identification <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
