5. The students work on material from small museums and private<br />

collections.<br />

6. In <strong>the</strong> third year <strong>the</strong> student will serve an <strong>in</strong>ternship <strong>in</strong> an<br />

approved conservation department or laboratory <strong>in</strong> a museum or<br />

gallery, under supervision.<br />

Award<br />

7. On <strong>the</strong> satisfactory completion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> course <strong>the</strong> student will be<br />

awarded a master <strong>of</strong> arts degree <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> conservation <strong>of</strong> historic and<br />

artistic works.<br />

Students<br />

8. The annual <strong>in</strong>take <strong>of</strong> students is ten, and after <strong>the</strong> first year <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> course <strong>the</strong>re will be twenty students work<strong>in</strong>g at <strong>the</strong> Centre. The<br />

ten f<strong>in</strong>al year students will be serv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>in</strong>ternships elsewhere.<br />

Entry Qualifications<br />

9. Generally candidates are expected to have a four-year bachelor's<br />

degree or its equivalent <strong>in</strong> art history or science from an accredited<br />

college or art school. The candidate must also have some experience<br />

<strong>of</strong> pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g and draw<strong>in</strong>g, besides show<strong>in</strong>g manual aptitude. The<br />

average age <strong>of</strong> entry is 22/23.<br />

F<strong>in</strong>ance<br />

ro. The Centre is part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Cooperstown Graduate Programme<br />

and as such is f<strong>in</strong>anced by <strong>the</strong> State University College at Oneonta.<br />

XI. THE CONSERVATION CENTRE OF THE<br />

INSTITUTE OF FINE ARTS, NEW YORK<br />

1. The Institute <strong>of</strong> F<strong>in</strong>e Arts, an Institute <strong>of</strong> New York University<br />

provides undergraduate and postgraduate courses <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> history <strong>of</strong><br />

art and archaeology, which lead to New York University degrees.<br />

2. The Institute is situated <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> James B. Duke House on <strong>the</strong><br />

corner <strong>of</strong> Fifth Avenue and 78th Street, with<strong>in</strong> a few m<strong>in</strong>utes <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Metropolitan Museum.<br />

3. The Institute has an extensive library and photographic collection.
