OPTOMETRY<br />

Graduates in the specialist Optomety BSc Programme will be able to:<br />

– recognise and evaluate disorders of the eye and disturbances of eye growth,<br />

– determine visual acuity objectively and subjectively, examine the refractive medium, refractive<br />

ability, errors of refraction, the way eye muscles function, the ability of heterophoria and<br />

convergence, and binocular vision, examine the chamber of the eye, crystalline lens, vitreous<br />

humour and the eye fundus with the help of a slit lamp, estimate ocular tension,<br />

– prescribe the necessary lens or contact lenses after having done the appropriate examination to<br />

correct ocular refraction,<br />

– use their clinical and nursing knowledge during their daily activities,<br />

– actively participate in improving the culture of vision in individuals, communities and general<br />

population,<br />

– conduct and evaluate screening tests,<br />

– conduct business or be engaged in commercial jobs relying on legal measures.<br />

Job opportunities<br />

Those who complete this course can find employment in business as practicing optometrists. They<br />

are capable of starting an enterprise and running it. They can also find employment as<br />

optometrists working independently or working as eye specialist assistants or may be employed in<br />

eye diagnostic laboratories. They can successfully work in these positions relying on their<br />

knowledge of health science and clinical practice. As project and product managers, they can be<br />

engaged in trade and research in their field of specialisation.<br />

Physiotherapy programme<br />

Aim of training<br />

The master programme prepares students for research, physiotherapy education and management<br />

of physiotherapy practices. The Masters Degree in Physiotherapy is a three-semester programme<br />

consisting of classroom teaching, self-learning activities and clinical education. In the first part of<br />

the master programme theoretical basis of physiotherapy is refreshed along with research<br />

methodology, deep physiological knowledge and biostatistics. The second part of the studies<br />

focuses on the scientific evaluation of physiotherapy practice. The study programme includes<br />

seminars, journal reviews, case presentations, case studies ans classroom teaching. Students are<br />

rotated in all areas of clinical expertise during the third semester of programme.<br />
