Preparing the dental students for the practical education of orthodontic health care, focusing<br />

primarily on the development of the manual skills.<br />

Practical education: 1 hour/week<br />

Comment: The practical education takes place in 7x2 hours. Training starts in the autumn<br />

The used method<br />

According to the detailed syllabus, presentation of the current appliance types on a sample, and/or<br />

with multimedia methods. The activation of the appliances, wire- and arch bending practiced<br />

individually. Individual practice of bracket bonding with the help of typodonts and phantoms. The<br />

students are working under the supervision and management of the instructor.<br />

Detailed syllabus<br />

1. The categorization of appliances, the basic principles of their functions, basics of the<br />

orthodontic biomechanics<br />

2. The function of the discernible appliances, their activation, elements, wire bending<br />

practice<br />

3. The characteristics of metallic alloys used in orthodontics, their usability, wire bending<br />

practice<br />

4. The activation of the appliances, their elements, accessories, bracket bonding systems<br />

5. The operation principle of the typodont, its application, the use of the ligatures<br />

6. Arch bending on a model, using typodont<br />

7. Friction-proof systems, loop bending methods<br />
