Program of course: Two lecture hours per week, in the spring semester, with mandatory test<br />

examination on the last class<br />

Credit value: 2 credits<br />

Eligibility: ED English students of second year (Anatomy III finished and passed) or higher forms<br />

Venue: Auditorium of Dept. of Anatomy, Histology and Embryology,<br />

Time: Thursdays at 5 o’clock pm<br />

The aim of the course is to lay the anatomical foundation for the evaluation of modern diagnostic<br />

images of ever improving quality and definition. Furthermore, the course enables the utilization of<br />

relevant knowledge obtained by diagnostic imaging methods for the studying of anatomy. The<br />

course is recommended primarily for second year students as a supplement to anatomical studies<br />

but, due to its clinical relevance, the students of higher forms can also make good use of the<br />

course material. Tutored by anatomists, radiologists and other clinical specialists, the course<br />

deals with a systematic and topographic overview of the following problems: Introduction into<br />

diagnostic imaging techniques, the topography and imaging of the system of locomotion, lungs,<br />

pleura and mediastinum, the heart (MRI, echocardiography, coronarography), peripheral arterial<br />

system of limbs (including common variations and disorders), abdominal and pelvic organs<br />

(including fetal ultrasonography), sectional anatomy of the brain using 3T MRI images, other<br />

diagnostic imaging methods of the brain (CT, cerebral angiography, PET), experimental<br />

investigation of human subjects by fMRI, topography and imaging of the vertebral column, spinal<br />

cord, facial skeleton and cervical region, also including frequent disorders.<br />
