Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy (three semesters)<br />

Topic of Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy II (Year 4, 2012/2013, first semester):<br />

Introduction to the neurotransmission<br />

The autonomic nervous system – Pharmacology of adrenergic and cholinergic transmission.<br />

Pharmacology of the central nervous system – Introduction to the pharmacology of CNS drugs.<br />

General anesthetics. Drugs of abuse. Sedative-hypnotic and anxyolitic drugs. Antipsychotics.<br />

Antidepressant and mood-stabilizing agents. Anorexigenic drugs. Nootropic drugs. Antiepileptics.<br />

Centrally acting skeletal muscle relaxants (spasmolytics). Pharmacological management of<br />

neurodegenerative disorders. Drugs used to treat migraine.<br />

Clinical pharmacology of psychiatric and neurological diseases.<br />

Pharmacology of peripheral nerves and muscles. – Local anesthetics. Skeletal muscle relaxants.<br />

Drugs acting on the smooth muscle. Smooth muscle relaxants.<br />

Pharmacology and clinical pharmacology of infections caused by living pathogens – Antiseptics.<br />

Antimicrobial, antiviral, antifungal, antiprotozoal and anthelmintic agents.<br />

Prescription writing.<br />

Maximum number of absences is 25 percent of the practices in the semester<br />

Absence justification: Medical certificate is accepted<br />

There are no obligatory midterms<br />

Semester requirements: The number of absences should not be more than 25 percent of the<br />

practices in the semester.<br />

Successful exam from the topic of the preceding pharmacological course<br />

Written test: scores.<br />

Final exam consists of three parts. The grade will be decided after the oral part of the exam, taken<br />

into consideration the results of the preceding two parts (see below).<br />

Exam types:<br />

1st semester. Written test<br />

2nd semester. Semi-final, oral<br />

3rd semester. Final exam which consists of three parts. 1. Preceding exam from toxicology and<br />

prescription writing. 2. Written test from clinical pharmacology. 3. Oral exam.
