Disorders of the anterior pituitary. Disorders of the posterior pituitary.<br />

Thyroid physiology. Tests of thyroid function and thyroid regulation. Hyperthyroidism.<br />

Hypothyroidism. Thyroiditis. Sporadic and endemic goiter. Benign and malignant tumors<br />

of the thyroid.<br />

Disorders of the adrenal cortex. Laboratory evaluation of adrenocortical function. Adrenocortical<br />

hypofunction.<br />

Cushing’s syndrome. Mineralocorticoid excess states.<br />

The adrenogenital syndromes. The adrenal medulla and the sympathetic nervous system.<br />

The parathyroid glands. Hypercalcemia and hypocalcemia.<br />

Gonadal diseases. Hirsutism. Diseases of the breast. Polyglandular disorders.<br />

The carcinoid syndrome.<br />

Diabetes mellitus (1). Etiology, pathogenesis, clinical forms.<br />

Diabetes mellitus (2). Complications. Treatment.<br />

Hypoglycemic disorders. Pancreatic islet cell tumor The hyperlipoproteinemias.<br />

Nutritional diseases. Nutritional assessment. Protein-caloric undernutrition.<br />

Anorexia nervosa. Obesity.<br />

Disorders of purine metabolism. Gout. Alcoholism.<br />

Disorders of vitamin metabolism: deficiencies, metabolic abnormalities and excesses. Disordered<br />

fluid and electrolyte homeostasis. Inborn errors of metabolism in the adult.<br />

secretion of ADH, acromegaly, hyperprolactinemia, Cushing’s hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism,<br />

thyroiditis, goiter, solitary thyroid nodule, Addison’s disease, Cushing’s syndrome, Conn’s<br />

syndrome, adrenogenital syndromes, phaeochromocytoma, parathyroid hyperfunction, parathyroid<br />

hypofunction, hyper- and hypocalcaemic states, gonadal diseases, hirsutism, carcinoma of the<br />

breast, carcinoid syndrome, diabetes mellitus, diabetic ketoacidosis, complications of diabetes<br />

mellitus, hypoglycemic disorders, anorexia nervosa, gout, alcoholism, vitamin deficiencies,<br />

metabolic and respiratory acidosis, metabolic and respiratory alkalosis, and inborn errors of<br />

metabolism.<br />
