Dear YMCA Friends,
To have a YMCA in your community is no small feat. In fact, it takes a great deal
of dedication, support and willingness to make it happen. That’s why this year’s Report to
the Community emphasizes - wherever there is a will, there is, and can be, a YMCA.
In recent years, we have expanded the YMCA of Greater Williamson County to
other service areas. And those areas have not only grown, they’ve blossomed. Take the
Taylor Family YMCA, for instance. Since it was introduced in 2006, new programs have
continually been added to its offerings. Aside from introducing new fitness classes and
improving its growing Child Watch services, Taylor’s fundraising events in 2009 alone
helped raise more than $35,000 for our Strong Kids Campaign.
The Twin Lakes Family YMCA in Cedar Park, meanwhile, continued its tradition
of answering the call of the community in 2009. Its overall expansion and community
partnerships are part of the reason why this YMCA was voted as “Best Organization or
Club” by the Hill Country News and “Best Place to Learn Basketball” for a third
consecutive year by Austin Family Magazine.
Adjacent to the Twin Lakes Family YMCA, Camp Twin Lakes continued to build
upon its reputation as one of the premier summer camps in the region while also
extending its community reach by hosting seasonal events like Halloween at the YMCA,
which attracted more than 4,000 people in 2009.
In Round Rock, the CHASCO Family YMCA saw its numbers soar with the
opening of the Rabb Family Natatorium and a full-sized gymnasium. Its first full year of
operation with those facilities began in 2009, where more than 3,000 swim lessons were
provided and newly-formed adult sports leagues added to the CHASCO Family YMCA’s
ever-growing popularity.
As always, the YMCA puts families first. That’s why in 2009 we also expanded
Child Watch and Afterschool services across the board in all locations by adding new
programs and improving current facilities at both our branches and the seven school
districts where we served over 5,500 children.
All of this is accomplished through partnerships with communities and residents
who see the growing need and future impact of the YMCA. It takes hundreds of
thousands of dollars to operate one YMCA location. With supporters and members, we
can continue to do what we do best - provide a place where families can grow healthier
and stronger together.
Your YMCA is a gift from your community to your community; we are merely
stewards of that great provision. As the YMCA grows and expands to serve more and
more people, you can feel responsible for its success. Thanks to you, our members,
leaders and friends, we can continue to strive to reach more and do more. So, thank you.

Round Rock
Whenever there has been a need in the Round Rock community in terms of
fitness, family or community, the CHASCO Family YMCA has been there
working hard in order to fill it ... and 2009 was no exception.
While the Rabb Family Natatorium and full-sized gymnasium were completed
during the 2008 calendar year, this year marked their first in terms of operation and
impact. With new adult sports leagues now running year-round, additional youth
sports teams for basketball, indoor soccer and volleyball now in existence and
over 3,200 swim lessons provided - there is no question that the CHASCO Family
YMCA stepped up to provide exactly what its community was looking for
in terms of both sports and aquatics.
Continuing to build on some of its existing strengths, the CHASCO Family YMCA
also served over 70,000 children in Child Watch throughout 2009 and saw more
than 68,000 adults participate in their ever-expanding schedule of group exercise
classes. While these numbers just seem to increase each year, the YMCA is still
not resting on its laurels in these departments either. Renovations to expand the
Child Watch area have begun, and new group exercise facilities, including a
dedicated spin room and new cardio theater, have been incorporated.
Consider everything mentioned above and add the YMCA’s continued success with
such family events like Halloween at the YMCA and it’s easy to see how relevant
the CHASCO Family YMCA has become in the Round Rock community. Just ask
the facility’s membership, which now numbers over 4,000 units.
While this success is tremendous, the CHASCO Family YMCA still realizes that its
community is looking for additional services and 2010 is yet another opportunity to
make an even greater impact and further the YMCA mission.

of the county. On a whim, I decided to join the Taylor Family YMCA. What a
blessing it has become. I found out that Taylor is full of stay-at-home moms

Taylor
Since it opened its doors in April of 2006, the Taylor Family YMCA
has been a cornerstone in the Taylor community for its ability to provide exactly
what residents want in terms of fitness, sports, child care, aquatics and family.
Many of these services have come by working closely with the city and a long line
of civic organizations in order to find a way to meet the collective need. From
expanding its youth sports offerings to include Kiwanis soccer and basketball to
establishing an outdoor adventure summer camp in Murphy Park - now known as
Camp Murphy Park, the Taylor Family YMCA answered the call of parents and
children alike for quality sports and camp opportunities in 2009. The YMCA also
expanded its Child Watch services in terms of days and hours to meet the
demands of families throughout its community. In fact, with the start of 2010,
the Taylor Family YMCA was installing an indoor playscape as part of its
Child Watch area to improve what it already had to offer this group.
Not to be outdone, the fitness department expanded its services by
providing new and exciting programs like as RPM and Boot Camp for Chicks,
while aquatics continued its excellence in supervising community pools, teaching
kids to swim and making water exercise a part of regular adult fitness routines.
Additionally, the Taylor Family YMCA held its Zumbathon and Turkey Trot events
for a second consecutive year and raised over $2,500 combined for the YMCA’s
Strong Kids Campaign to directly impact financial assistance throughout
the county and within the Taylor community.
Just like the previous three years, 2009 was another bright spot for the
Taylor Family YMCA in exceeding the needs of its growing community through
cooperation and quality programming. And that winning combination is not only set
to continue, but become stronger for the foreseeable future.

Answering the call of its community has always been at the forefront of what the
staff of the Twin Lakes Family YMCA has set out to do each year, including 2009.
And by taking a stroll through the facility on any given day, you can see - if not
through the variety of programs offered but by the sheer number of participants
- that they are accomplishing exactly what they hoped to do.
Refusing to be limited by their physical space, the Twin Lakes Family YMCA
worked on innovative ways to broaden their services for children, adults and
families alike. Not only did they expand an existing partnership with the Avery
Ranch Homeowners Association to provide more swim lessons to area children,
but they renovated their meeting room to accommodate additional exercise and
sports programs as well as community groups requiring a meeting space. As if that
were not impressive enough, the branch’s efforts to do more for its community did
not lack in quality either as the Twin Lakes Family YMCA was named the
“Best Organization or Club” in the area by the Hill Country News and was
tabbed the “Best Place To Learn Basketball” for a third consecutive year by
Austin Family Magazine.
The Twin Lakes Family YMCA also saw a total of 800 runners take part in the
Cedar Park 5 Miler and Trailsetter 5K running events that they hosted last year.
While those events provided a venue for an ever-expanding running population,
they also raised a significant amount of money for community policing, parks and
recreation and financial assistance through the YMCA’s Strong Kids Campaign.
Looking to future community needs, the branch board of directors also laid the
groundwork for a future strategic plan to expand the current facility and provide
more in the areas of aquatics, fitness and sports. With that being said,
it’s obvious that community need and opportunity meet when it comes
to the efforts of the Twin Lakes Family YMCA.

Camp Twin Lakes
When the YMCA of Greater Williamson County established Camp Twin Lakes,
the idea was to provide the county with an outdoor adventure venue that could
provide a camp, outdoor education and group event experience unlike
any other in the area. The vast number of children and families who have been
touched by Camp Twin Lakes’ programs and its reputation as
one of the top camps in all of Central Texas speaks to its impact both within
and beyond its surrounding community in Cedar Park.
In 2009 alone, Camp Twin Lakes not only averaged 750 campers per day during
its summer day camp program from June through August, but also welcomed more
than 16,000 people to the park in terms of school groups, churches, youth
organizations, special education groups and businesses for a variety of camp
programming. Additionally, during the month of October alone, Camp Twin Lakes
had more than 4,000 people participate in its Halloween events, which included
the annual Pumpkin Patch, a Haunted House attraction and the
Halloween at the YMCA festival. The YMCA Adventure Guides also kicked off
their year with their Adventure Night in August, which saw a record 1,200 people
take part in a wide array of camp activities as part of this family program.
Continuing to spread its reach, Camp Twin Lakes also participated in the YMCA’s
Strong Kids Campaign for the first time as an official branch last year and raised
$30,000 on a goal of only $20,000 to directly help families requiring financial
assistance to participate in YMCA programs such as summer camp.
While Camp Twin Lakes could just maintain its current operation and
still serve the greater community, it is still looking to do more in the future, as
plans for a full residence camp with cabins, a dining hall and more have been
put in motion for the coming years.

Child Care
Whether it is preschool, after school or during school breaks, child care is one of
the most important and highly-demanded services that families in any community
desperately need. Williamson County is no exception and the YMCA’s
Licensed Child Care staff once again provided the high-quality, safe, fun and
educational environment that parents are always looking for in 2009.
With the county continuing to grow at a rapid pace, the YMCA expanded its already
numerous Afterschool site locations to three more schools in 2009. As a result, the
YMCA managed to provide after school care to over 5,000 elementary school
children each day throughout the academic year. The YMCA’s Licensed Child Care
staff also held camps during each of the school breaks for kids in Kinder through
5th grade, including their highly-acclaimed summer day camp, which
averaged 750 children per week at eight locations.
On top of all the above noteworthy endeavors, the YMCA’s Child Development
Center in Round Rock continued to operate at capacity while providing what is
regarded as one of the top preschool programs throughout the area.
Although rising up to meet the community need for child care services seems to
be a goal that the YMCA’s Licensed Child Care Department regularly attains,
they continue to do even more. In 2009, they joined forces with the CHASCO
Family YMCA to develop a future strategic plan to renovate the branch sports fields
in Round Rock. This endeavor would not only provide for better youth sports
facilities, but result in the infrastructure development necessary to house
another fully-functional, on-site camp venue. In turn, this would allow more space
to accommodate the increasing number of families requiring summer camp and
other child care services throughout the year.
