Bang! ng! Hurtled out into another dimension. When the pain became unb unbearable,
e, Sabine Mehne left her body. Suddenly she saw herself from above, above
lying
in a hospital bed. She was bathed in a healing light and felt infinitely
free. But no one – and she least of anyone – understood what had happened
to her. After her recovery she led a kind of double life: outwardly she tried
to function and fulfill her role as the mother of three children. But secretly
she longed to return to that all-encompassing light – and in time learned to
move back and forth between the worlds.
Sabine Mehne’s account of her near-death experience is powerful and yet
easy to read. She approaches the existential questions of life and death with
poetry and fresh humor.
“This wonderful book is the most intimate, revealing and open-hearted report
of someone coming to terms with a near-death experience that I have ever
read. […] Highly recommended!”
A family living their dream
▶ The story of an unusually daring family
▶ Dreams exist to be realized!
▶ An invitation to live life now
There’s ere’s no overtime in life! But there is such a thing as “too late” for unreal- unre
ized d dreams. Beate and Olaf Hofmann didn’t want to wait that long. They Th
gave up everything safe and secure in Germany to fulfill a life-long dream
with their ten-year-old daughter Nora: to spend a year in the wide-open
spaces of western Canada as a family, without time pressure.
On the trail of the Gold Rush they encounter the tenacity of the old pioneers,
the dangers of the wilderness, difficulties they hadn’t predicted and
their own strength. They find gold – inner strength, optimism, time and
new friends.
Their story will thrill you, and encourage you not to ignore the siren call of
life. No matter what form your own dreams may take, it’s worth it to give
them the space they deserve. Sometimes you have to stop so life can catch
up to you.
“I am fascinated by the way Beate and Olaf Hofmann combine a life lived to
the fullest, the courage to make exceptional decisions, and the desire to help
other people along the way.”
Who isn’t familiar with the wicked queen from the fairy tale Snow White, who became
and man of C. G. Jung
▶ Key texts by C. G. Jung for spiritual seekers
analyst who is familiar with spiritual traditions
“The he decisive question for a person is: are you related to something infin
infinite
or not? That is the telling question of his life.“ This statement of C. G. Jung’s
demonstrates the critical importance of spirituality in his understanding of
the world and human beings.
For this book, the Jungian analyst and psychotherapist Brigitte Dorst has
selected the most important texts in which Jung addresses spirituality and
transcendence. The spectrum of themes – images of God, the soul, the
search for meaning, psychotherapy and religion, religious symbols, Eastern
wisdom – makes it clear how thoroughly and extensively Jung explored
these questions.
This title is addressed to engaged specialists as well as people who are simply
interested in an ecumenical spirituality and a freeing interpretation of
and nurses. Her conversations
show how dealing with
death can enrich our own lives.
What happens after death?
▶ Informative and knowledgeable
▶ Helpful orientation to an existential question
Many ny people share the hope that life continues after death “somehow”,
but
there re are widely varying ideas about the “how”. The idea of a rebirth is
increasingly
widespread even among people of the Christian faith. But are
these ideas even compatible, or do they contain contradictions that can’t be
resolved?
Gabriel Looser presents representatives of both viewpoints, discusses differences
and similarities, and clears up widespread misunderstandings.
This allows readers to clarify their own point of view and find a position
that is consistent with their own beliefs. In the last section of the book, the
author, who leads an institute for spiritual care for the dying, lays out a vision,
which is both inspiring and unorthodox, that just might overcome
those contradictions.
An espresso is sometimes like a dose of relaxation. It interrupts the daily routine and
provides new concentration. When the daily grind is going too fast, only one thing can
help: a break – with or without espresso. Look off into the distance, take a breath and
open up your senses – so you can be present with yourself again. The texts by Hildegard
Believing improves living
▶ “The art of life” viewed in light of faith
▶ High profile, lively, motivating
“What What should I do with so much life, I need someone who can live, someone who w
knows ows how that goes …” ”
sings a young band in Berlin. We have lots of pos possibilities,
but perhaps have less and less understanding of how life is supposed
to “go”. Reaching for a book of advice or turning to a coach seem like obvious
solutions. As important as good advice may be, it often doesn’t penetrate
to the root of the anxiety, and the pressure to take charge of your own
life is only intensified. Do we have to master everything single-handedly?
Faith has always stood for the idea that life is more than what we can do.
Ludger Schulte shows us that through the power of faith, our relationship
to time, for example, or with our own failures and those of others take on a
different quality. Taking on this perspective is a challenge, but at the same
time also a relief, because it reminds us that living is more than just doing.
Asking about God today
▶ The question of God spelled out in everyday life
▶ Author is familiar through radio and television
Tormented mented by apocalyptical fears, Martin Luther once posed his famous fam
question: stion: “How do I find a merciful God?” That is no longer our question; quest
we ask “How do I find God in my life? How can an all-powerful God allow
such endless suffering? Does God even exist?” But no matter what form it
takes, the question of God has a firm grip on us.
Michael Broch’s attempts to answer these questions explore the traces of
the divine in our lives and in the world. They are based on the conviction
that the world is not without God, even when much appears to be meaningless
and remains incomprehensible.
Experiencing the divine – even today
▶ Renowned author
▶ Timely and well-grounded contribution to the
question of God
Many ny people are turning away from the church; fewer people are attend attending
worship rship services and greater numbers are leaving the church. The church’s churc
fear of loss sees in these trends nothing other than a loss of faith and connection
to God.
A more nuanced look, however, reveals that people continue to search for
transcendence in their biographical life stories, even when the terms “God”
and “church” don’t explicitly appear. Stefan Knobloch vehemently urges us
to take that search seriously, yet without appropriating it as a dedicated
search for “God”. He thus shows us possibilities for a process at the end of
which stand Jesus’ words: “You are not far from the kingdom of God” (Mark
12:34).
Does the church have a future?
▶ A heartfelt plea for a people-centered church
▶ Addresses people’s most pressing questions
These ese days, many people experience church as an institution far remov removed
from m life that no longer has anything to do with the things most import important
to them. Can a church like that, one that comes across to people mainly as a
hierarchy, have any future at all? Or will it continue to be less and less relevant
for people’s lives?
Bernd Jochen Hilberath describes a vision that has a future: If the church
wants to continue to be relevant for people, then it must be a church of the
people. With reference to the Second Vatican Council, Bernd Jochen Hilberath
provides encouraging answers to the decisive questions: What, who
a systematically structured grammar. He focuses on narrative genres, biblical forms and
dogmatic traditions, and gives them a voice that can be understood today. His efforts
prove that no matter how far people have removed themselves from an ecclesiastical environment,
best way to connect religious traditions with current consciousness.
Why the Christian faith is so
important right now
▶ A clear statement of a position at a critical time
▶ Perspectives that will shake up a society grown tired
and complacent through capitalism
Over er the course of years, profit maximization, innovative thinking aand
consumption nsumption have left their mark on our society. It is becoming incre increasingly
l obvious, b hhowever, that h “faster, “f higher, h h further” f h ” leads l d to nothing h but
ruin. But what else can guide us?
Klaus Koziol is convinced that the Christian perspective has never been
more essential than it is today. And with this book he holds up a valuable
aspect of Christianity: service to others. He demonstrates concisely and
creatively how this orientation can provide lasting impetus in politics and
economics. At the same time, his book conveys some of the fascination and
adventure that are part of being a Christian today.
On the presence of the others
▶ New perspectives on interreligious discussions
▶ A new book by the successful author
Jews ws celebrate Passover, Christians Easter, and Muslims ask God to send a
table ble from Heaven where the faithful dine and find sustenance (Qur’an, SSu
rah 5). ) Celebrating special meals establishes a strong connection between
the three great religions, according to Karl-Josef Kuschel. Here this previously
unrecognized bond is described in book form for the first time.
When Christians celebrate the Easter feast, the other religions are also present,
according to Kuschel’s thesis, an argument he can base on historical
and systematic arguments without misappropriating the other religions.
This insight is of widespread significance and will no doubt lead to fruitful
discussions between Jews, Christians and Muslims.
The fascinating life journey of a
courageous woman
▶ New aspects from the life of the great philosopher
▶ Compelling and thrilling writing style
▶ New source materials analyzed for the first time
The e life of Christiane Hegel can be outlined in broad strokes as follo follows:
raised ed as the only female among men after the early death of her moth
mother,
later responsible for the education of the von Berlichingen daughters as
their governess, a patient at the public insane asylum at Zwiefalten and finally
suicide in the Nagold River. But why do we know so little about the
important philosopher’s only sister, who met such a tragic end? Why did
she end up in an insane asylum, while her brother pursued his career in
Prussia?
Based on many newly discovered sources related to the lives of Christiane
Hegel and her famous brother, Alexandra Birkert follows the traces of a fascinating
woman who smuggled letters, spoke Latin, and had contact with
many of the famous personalities of her time. From the puzzle pieces
emerges not only the life of a remarkable woman, but also a lively picture of
the turbulent years of the late 18 th century in Württemberg.
Garden magic as in the olden days
▶ Natural gardening as it used to be done
▶ Everything you need to know about farmers’ gardens
▶ A classic work on the subject
A farmer’s garden is varied and beautiful: flowers, herbs, fruit and vegetables
all grow together in orderly confusion, a pleasure for the eyes and the
palate. The plants actually support and encourage each other in their
growth, warding off pests and even providing shelter for beneficial creatures.
That is why a farmer’s garden is always tended naturally, without
chemicals or pesticides.
But what belongs in a farmer’s garden, and how do you care for it? In chapters
including “Vegetables and Herbs” or “Roses and Shrubs” you will learn
all about the plants and their ideal locations. The chapter on design elements
shows you which bed borders work best and how to organize the
plants. Crop rotation and mixed cultivation are addressed as well as “gardener’s
gold” – compost. Of course you are free to do one thing above all:
Less meat, more vegetables
▶ Not a purely vegetarian approach, but one that
consciously uses less meat
▶ Fine cuisine for every day
▶ With regional ingredients according to the season
We all know it’s true: less meat would be better, for our health, for the animals,
for the environment. But most people enjoy eating meat too much to
give it up entirely. An alternative is to try the “less is more” approach. That
means instead of eating meat at every meal, enjoy a meat dish made with
excellent quality organic meat once a week, use the leftovers from the Sunday
roast another day, have fish once, and the rest of the week relish wonderful,
inventive, seasonal vegetable dishes.
The weekly menu suggestions of the two enthusiastic and organically-oriented
cooks will please even the most devoted meat lovers, keep you in
good health, and offer fabulously diverse flavors.
