The minutes of the Open Matters of 6th March 2012 were approved as drafted.<br />
109. Action List and Matters Arising<br />
a. Action List: item on Life Fellows: Dr Sloan said that the group had been<br />
suspended pending the outcome of the debate on Fellows’ Expectations.<br />
110. John Rose Prize<br />
The Senior Tutor reported that the first prize had been awarded to James Gratrex and<br />
the second prize to Yvonne Hackman.<br />
111. Beehives at King’s<br />
a. Received: a paper from the Domus Bursar.<br />
b. Agreed: to endorse the approval of the Gardens Committee to establish a Joint<br />
Selwyn/King’s <strong>College</strong> Bee Hive Club, and to site the apiary on Scholars’ Piece.<br />
112. <strong>College</strong> and University Fees<br />
a. Received: a paper form the First Bursar.<br />
b. Agreed: to approve the policy for the collection of fees described in the paper.
113. <strong>College</strong> Fees 2012-13<br />
a. Received: a paper from the First Bursar.<br />
b. Agreed: to recirculate the paper from the Council of 19th July 2011 and bring the<br />
item back to Council at the meeting on 15th <strong>May</strong>.<br />
114. Rylands Art Prize<br />
The Senior Tutor reported that the first prize had been awarded to Joshua Bristow, the<br />
second prize to Jess Kwong, and the third prize jointly to Helen Murray and Sophie<br />
Grabiner.<br />
115. Rupert Brooke – Request for Support<br />
a. Received: a paper from the Bursar with a request for support for a concert<br />
celebrating the centenary of the writing of Rupert Brooke’s poem, “The Old<br />
Vicarage, Grantchester”.<br />
b. Agreed: to allow the <strong>College</strong> Shop to sell tickets to the concerts.<br />
116. Shakespeare in the Garden<br />
a. Received: a paper from the Bursar.<br />
b. Agreed: to permit the Cambridge Shakespeare Festival to stage performances in<br />
the Fellows’ Garden over three weeks in August 2012, at a fee of £165 per day.<br />
Detailed arrangements to be agreed with the Head Porter and Head Gardener.<br />

Received: the Minutes of the meeting of the Finance Committee held on 28th February<br />

120. Application for Use of Cobbles<br />
a. Received: A paper from the Vice-Provost.<br />
b. Agreed:<br />
(i) to grant permission for the Cobbles to be blocked off for the night of 20th July 2012 for the Fellow’s Summer Supper Party;<br />
(ii) to send a letter to Sarah Chambre and Dr Cleobury with a copy to the Dean<br />
noting that parking on the Cobbles requires the permission of Council.
121. Queen’s Beasts at King’s<br />
a. Received: a paper from the Domus Bursar<br />
b. Agreed: to endorse the approval of the Gardens Committee to display Tom<br />
Hiscocks’ Queen’s Beasts exhibits from 6 – 19 June in a suitable location in the<br />
college, and for the Domus Bursar to coordinate activities associated with the<br />
exhibition, subject to particular caution on Fun Day, Sunday, 17th June.<br />
122. Monteverdi Choir<br />
a. Received: a paper form the Dean and Dr. Marston.<br />
b. Agreed: to make a donation of £500 to the Monteverdi Choir for the recordings<br />
of the Ascension Cantatas and that a letter should be written stressing the<br />
enthusiasm of the Council for the support of the Choir.<br />
123. Retirement Age<br />
a. Received: a paper from the Provost<br />
b. Agreed: that Council reaffirms, as it decided in July 2011:<br />
(i) that if the University adopts an Employer Justified Retirement Age for<br />
academic and academic-related staff, the <strong>College</strong> will do so as well for the<br />
same categories.<br />
(ii) that the details of how it operates can be decided later but will be broadly<br />
similar to the University’s scheme.<br />
(iii) that the <strong>College</strong>’s objectively justified retirement age will be 70.<br />

Received: the minutes of the Catering Committee held on 24 th April 2012.<br />
