Welcome
From Kennesaw State University
Congratulations to all of the participating Georgia secondary students and their teachers for
another exciting year of the All-State Art Symposium (ASAS). ASAS, sponsored by the Georgia
Art Education Association, continued to see tremendous statewide participation in its 5th
year. ASAS is open to all public and private high school students and promotes the visual arts
as a vital part of the school curriculum. This year, hosting was shared between Kennesaw
State University and Mason Murer Fine Art Gallery. The resulting partnership gave Georgia
secondary students the opportunity to exhibit in a major Atlanta gallery. Again, congratulations
to all who participated and remember to be creative every day.
Creatively yours,
Diana Gregory
CETL Fellow for Creativity & Innovation
Program Coordinator & Associate Professor of Art Education
School of Art & Design, Kennesaw State University
From the Georgia Art Education Association
The All-State Art Symposium began as a way for public and private high school art students
to compete with their peers on the state level. Over 880 artworks were submitted this year
representing 67 participating teachers. Of these works, the district jurors selected 247 works
as district winners. Sarah Durning, gallery manager for Whitespace Gallery, served as state
juror and Mark Karelson, director of Mason Murer Fine Art, served as ASAS award winner
juror. Over 130 works were selected for exhibition.
On behalf of the Georgia Art Education Association, I would like to congratulate all of those
who submitted artworks in the 2013 All-State Art Symposium. Each of you has shown tremendous
leadership by participating in this statewide competition. The future of the arts in Georgia
looks bright! I would also like to thank all of the art teachers who have assisted and mentored
the talented students who submitted work to be juried in the 5th All-State Art Symposium.
