Married: Gregg Burkey
4 Children, 1 Married,
DEBRA LEE DEWERFF
BURKEY
Currently: For the past three years my husband and I have been active in pre-marriage
counseling for our church. I also enjoy leadership responsibilities in a commercial airline
pilot wives group, socializing and facing new challenges since 9/11.
Favorite Memories: ”moving up” at class night…speech team events…tooling the
“gag”…play rehearsals… working on prom, and enjoying friends.
Songs that make me sing: Dance to the Music, Sweet Caroline, Born to be Wild, Stairway
to Heaven, and Light my Fire.
Interesting stuff about the last 40 years: Most unique title—Greek Affairs Advisor; Most
interesting—Authoring an award-winning career book; Most fulfilling—Teaching and
directing Jr. and Sr. High school students; Most profitable—Sales…(from Tupperware to
new homes); Most challenging—Sales promotion and advertising writing (with no formal
training); Most creative—Floral design, party planning and craft show fundraisers; Most
rewarding—My job as mom…encouraging our children to take the risks and pursue their
dreams...our daughter is in Africa filming a documentary, advocating the causes of children
at risk…One son is in Nashville finding acting work in TV and film…Another is in Wisconsin
writing advertising…and our last son home is finishing college, looking for his dream.
Words of Wisdom: Cherish your relationships. Reach out to those in need. Value God’s
call on your life.
