Biophysical Chemistry. We are interested in how nature
directs electron transfer and the ways in which poly-
peptides can influence the properties of embedded cofactors.
We study Photosystem I, a membrane protein that
uses the energy of absorbed photons to promote electron
transfer. We also work on the type I reaction center from
Heliobacteria, which is less understood. We use a combination
of molecular genetics and spectroscopic techniques
to understand how the polypeptide influences
electron transfer. TEL: (480) 965-0136 FAX: (480) 965-
