Dünya petrol rezervinin binde 8’ini elinde bulunduran ve
6.000’i aşkın perakende satış noktası ile dünyanın 2’nci
English
Lukoil, which is the 2nd largest energy company in the world,
holding eight per thousand of the world’s oil reserve and over
6,000 retail sales points, had made a rapid entry into the
Turkish market, acquiring Akpet in 2009.
Expanding its dealer network within a short time and reaching
600 stations throughout Turkey, the company also attracts
interest by its services aimed for companies using
highway transportation and fleets. The company, planning
to expand the number of its stations at the city centers in the
coming period, diversifies its services offered to its customers
by technological innovations in payment systems. Lukoil,
within this context, has implemented the “Fuel Card” project.
Lukoil Fuel Card, differentiating from the loyalty cards and
vehicle recognition systems that are used extensively in the
sector by allowing fuel purchase within the limits defined in it,
offer companies the opportunity to manage their fuel expenditures
without being bound by a certain vehicle.
We heard about the details of the project from the Lukoil
Corporate Fleet & Card Sales Manager Kahan Doğru.
Lukoil, has started its operations in Turkey 4 years ago. You have
made an entry into a established market. What types of activities
were carried out in order to differentiate in Turkey?
Lukoil’s primary operations are actually more concentrated in the
refinery, crude oil drilling and processing areas. Only around 5%
of the annual turnover is obtained from the retail sector. Therefore,
a vertical integration in this market is involved and we are talking
about a dynamic market that is developing very rapidly in the retail
sector. Commercial dynamics are changing much faster in Turkey
and you have to react to such change as quickly as possible to
keep up with such competition. And the only way to do that is to
operate with a technology focus in our day. At Lukoil Turkey, one
of the points we put most emphasis on is to reach new customers
especially in order to increase the sales volume at the fuel stations
in Turkey. And the most fitting way to do this is to establish and
market sales channels organized by the distribution channels…
Over the past 1 year, we have been working on the Lukoil Fuel Card
project in order to reinforce our hand in this area. In the coming periods,
we will continue to monitor the sector dynamics and improve
our services in line with the consumer expectations. Because, we
are now living in an era where the consumer is the king.
“Paper money is moving out of our lives
now, we are shifting towards plastic. No
one carries cash in his pocket unless he
has to anymore.”
You also are in a sector where competition is quite tough.
Exactly. Under those circumstances, you have to make decisions
fast, and implement the decisions you have made very quickly.
Because, the opportunity arises and passes within a very short
period of time. And I note this by underlining it: The only way to do
that is to work with a technology focus… While we are developing
products on one hand, we are working on how we may adapt the
changing consumer requirements and demands to the sector on
the other hand. Our card project, which is the last product of these
studies, is a highly comprehensive project in which very intense
time and effort has been put… As a matter of fact, we may also call
this as a banking operation in the simple sense.
