5. Baltic soft bottom dominated by Virgularia mirabilis<br />

DESCRIPTION: Slender sea pen (Virgularia mirabilis) is documented in Kattegat on mud soft sediment<br />

bottom. Echinoderms (Ophiura spp., Asterias rubens, Strongylocentrotus droebachiensis and<br />

Brissopsis lyrifera), crustaceans (Pagurus bernhardus, Liocarcinus depurator, and Munida rugosa),<br />

molluscs (Aporrhais pespelecani, Buccinum undatum, and Pecten maximus), and fish (including<br />

Gadus morhua, Limanda limanda, Callionymus lyra, Myxine glutinosa, Pleuronectes platessa, and<br />

Pomatoschistus minutus) were among the species documented at the same areas where Virgularia<br />

mirabilis occurs.<br />

DEPTH: 39-59 m<br />
