2. Batial soft bottom dominated by Funiculina quadrangularis<br />

DESCRIPTION: In the Eastern Cantabrian Sea OCEANA has recorded batial areas dominated by<br />

Funiculina quadrangularis. They are developed always in soft bottoms, mainly muddy substrate although<br />

some areas are dominated by mixed mud-sandy sediments. The substrate is heavily bioturbated by<br />

burrowing megafauna with burrows and mounds. There is also other group that creates large<br />

concentrations in this continental shelf, the cnidarians Cerianthus membranaceus.<br />
