2.0.3 Precedence of hazard characteristics<br />

2.0.3.1 The table below shall be used to determine the class of a substance, mixture or solution having<br />

more than one risk, when it is not named in the Dangerous Goods List in Chapter 3.2. For goods having multiple<br />

risks which are not specifically listed by name in the Dangerous Goods List, the most stringent packing group<br />

denoted to the respective hazards of the goods takes precedence over other packing groups, irrespective of the<br />

precedence of hazard table in this Chapter. The precedence of hazard characteristics of the following have not<br />

been dealt with in the Precedence of hazards Table in 2.0.3.3, as these primary characteristics always take<br />

precedence:<br />

(a) Substances and articles of Class 1;<br />

(b) Gases of Class 2;<br />

(c) Liquid desensitized explosives of Class 3;<br />

(d) Self-reactive substances and solid desensitized explosives of Division 4.1;<br />

(e) Pyrophoric substances of Division 4.2;<br />

(f) Substances of Division 5.2;<br />

(g) Substances of Division 6.1 with a packing group I inhalation toxicity 3 :<br />

(h) Substances of Division 6.2;<br />

(i) Material of Class 7.<br />

2.0.3.2 Apart from radioactive material in excepted packages (where the other hazardous properties take<br />

precedence) radioactive material having other hazardous properties shall always be classified in Class 7 and the<br />

subsidiary risk shall also be identified. For radioactive material in excepted packages, special provision 290 of<br />

Chapter 3.3 applies.<br />

3 Except for substances or preparations meeting the criteria of Class 8 having an inhalation toxicity of dusts<br />

and mists (LC50) in the range of packing group I, but toxicity through oral ingestion or dermal contact only in the<br />

range of packing group III or less, which shall be allocated to Class 8.<br />
