Special packing provisions (cont'd):<br />

PP20 For UN 2217, any siftproof, tearproof receptacle may be used.<br />

PP30 For UN 2471, paper or fibre inner packagings are not permitted.<br />

PP34 For UN 2969 (as whole beans), 5H1, 5L1 and 5M1 bags are permitted.<br />

PP37 For UN 2590 and UN 2212, 5M1 bags are permitted. All bags of any type shall be transported in closed<br />

cargo transport units or be placed in closed rigid overpacks.<br />

PP38 For UN 1309, packing group II, bags are permitted only in closed cargo transport units.<br />

PP84 For UN 1057, rigid outer packagings meeting the packing group II performance level shall be used. The<br />

packagings shall be designed and constructed and arranged to prevent movement, inadvertent ignition of the<br />

devices or inadvertent release of flammable gas or liquid.<br />

PP85 For UN Nos. 1748, 2208, 2880, 3485, 3486 and 3487, if bags are used as single packagings they should be<br />

adequately separated to allow for the dissipation of heat. For transport by sea, bags are not allowed as single<br />

packagings.<br />

P003 PACKING INSTRUCTION P003<br />

Dangerous goods shall be placed in suitable outer packagings. The packagings shall meet the provisions of 4.1.1.1,<br />

4.1.1.2, 4.1.1.4, 4.1.1.8 and 4.1.3 and be so designed that they meet the construction requirements of 6.1.4. Outer<br />

packagings constructed of suitable material, and of adequate strength and design in relation to the packaging<br />

capacity and its intended use, shall be used. Where this packing instruction is used for the transport of articles or<br />

inner packagings of combination packagings the packaging shall be designed and constructed to prevent inadvertent<br />

discharge of articles during normal conditions of transport.<br />

Special packing provisions:<br />

PP16 For UN 2800, batteries shall be protected from short circuit within the packagings.<br />

PP17 For UN 2037, packages shall not exceed 55 kg net mass for fibreboard packagings or 125 kg net mass for<br />

other packagings.<br />

PP18 For UN 1845, packagings shall be designed and constructed to permit the release of carbon dioxide gas<br />

to prevent a build-up of pressure that could rupture the packagings.<br />

PP19 For UN Nos. 1327, 1364, 1365, 1856 and 3360 transport as bales is authorized.<br />

PP20 For UN Nos. 1363, 1386, 1408 and 2793 any siftproof, tearproof receptacle may be used.<br />

PP32 UN Nos. 2857 and 3358 may be transported unpackaged, in crates or in appropriate overpacks.<br />

PP90 For UN 3506, sealed inner liners or bags of strong leak-proof and puncture resistant material impervious<br />

to mercury which will prevent escape of the substance from the package irrespective of the position of<br />

the package shall be used. For air transport additional requirements may apply.<br />
