“<strong>That</strong> which <strong>is</strong> manifested by the Pranava <strong>is</strong> the Lord (Ishwara) Himself.<br />

“Swadhyaya <strong>is</strong> repetition of the Pranava.<br />

“When the yogi has recognized the power of Om to express Its meaning, the Lord, he<br />

should undertake japa and bhavanam of It on the Lord Who <strong>is</strong> signified by Om. When the yogi<br />

thus engages in japa and bhavanam of Om, h<strong>is</strong> mind becomes one-pointed. So it has been said:<br />

‘After Om japa, let him set himself in yoga [bhavanam], after yoga, let him set himself to japa.<br />

When Om japa and bhavanam come to perfection the Supreme Self [Paramatman] shines<br />

forth.’” (Vyasa, Commentary on the Yoga Sutras)<br />
