M.: Does anyone say “I must come into being before or after some age?”<br />

He is here and now. Statements like this are misleading because people<br />

come to believe that they cannot realise the Self in this incarnation and<br />

must needs take chances in another. It is all absurd.<br />

Talk 339.<br />

With regard to Siva Visishtadvaita, (i.e., Saiva Siddhanta), <strong>Sri</strong> Bhagavan<br />

said: Garudoham bhavana ‘I am Garuda’ - conception does not make a<br />

garuda of a man. All the same the poisonous effects of snake-bite are<br />

cured. Similarly <strong>with</strong> Sivoham bhavana (I-am-Siva) conception also.<br />

One is not transformed into Siva, but the ruinous effects of the ego are<br />

put an end to. Or the person retains his individuality but remains pure,<br />

i.e., fit for constituting a part of the body of Siva. Becoming so he can<br />

enjoy the Supreme Bliss. That is liberation - say the Saiva Siddhantis.<br />

This simply betrays the love of their individuality and is in no way the<br />

true experience of liberation.<br />

Talk 340.<br />

Mr. Bose began, “After the return of body-consciousness ...”<br />

M.: What is body-consciousness? Tell us that first. Who are you<br />

apart from consciousness? Body is found because there is bodyconsciousness<br />

which arises from ‘I-consciousness’ which again<br />

rises from consciousness.<br />

Consciousness → ‘I-consciousness’ → body-consciousness →<br />

body.<br />

There is always consciousness and nothing but that. What you are<br />

now considering to be body-consciousness is due to superimposition.<br />

If there is only consciousness and nothing but it, the meaning of the<br />

Scripture Atmanastu kamaya sarvam priyam bhavati - (All are dear<br />

because of the love of the Self) becomes clear.<br />

A question arises, why there should be suicides in that case.<br />

Why does one do it? Because he is unhappy and desires to put<br />

an end to his unhappiness. He actually does it by ending the<br />

association <strong>with</strong> the body which represents all unhappiness.<br />

For there must be a killer to kill the body. He is the survivor after<br />

suicide. That is the Self.<br />
