CLUB CAPTAINS’ REPORT
Thursday 4 th October 2012
The 2012 season for College Rifles Netball Club has been one marked with some
outstanding results and achievements
We kicked off our year as usual with trials in February. Trails are always a challenge
and we are constantly working to improve the way thing are done to ensure all potential
players were given a fair trial and placed in an appropriate team.
From the trials, eight teams were picked and 3 age group development teams were
selected of girls aged between 12 and 17 years old. In addition to these teams, College
Rifles also had five self formed named teams which took the tally for CRN to a total of
16 teams for the 2012 season.
We then held our club grading tournament on the 17 th of March to guarantee that the
teams are all ranked accurately for entry into Auckland Netball (ANC) grading. This day
was also used to collect fees, distribute uniforms and kick off fundraising for the year.
Many teams entered this year’s pre season tournament to enable them to hit the ground
running when the real competition started. CRN Team 1 played in the Super 12
Competition where the top two teams from the Waikato, North, Counties Manakau and
Auckland Waitakere competitions played a pre season tournament. Team 1 did
extremely well and ended up in 7 th place. Along with a great team performance we have
some great individual performances. Shooter Jess Grinlinton was 5 th overall shooting
86% and Phoenix Karaka came 11th having shot 281 attempts with 82.2% accuracy.
CRN 2 (winners of A grade last season) started their season off by participating in
promotion/relegation for Premier Grade. This was a fiercely fought competition for a
spot in the premier grade for 2012. After playing 9 games in 3 weeks Team 2 came out
victors and secured their spot and the 3 rd College Rifles team alongside Gold and Team
1 in the Premier comp for 2012.
On Saturday 18 th August Team Gold played against Mags Capil in the Final of Auckland
Netball Premier Competition. They unfortunately missed out on first, ending up 2 nd for
2012 and Team 1 played Baytex, winning that game and claiming 3 rd place, Team 2
took out 8 th place and securing CRN a 3 rd spot in premier for 2013.
Along with our 3 premier teams this year we also had 3 teams in Senior A- this is great
for the teams and girls themselves but HUGE for CRN as a club- this shows that all the
hard work by the coaches, managers, players, committee and sponsors is paying off.
All other CRN teams entered the ANC Club competition which started on the later date
of April 21 st with grading rounds over three weeks and then started competition on the
May 5 th Completion consisted of 3 rounds of 5 weeks with the season coming to an end
on the 8 th September. At the completion of the 3 rounds CRN results were as follows
