5.2.2 GrayFinder Target<br />

For <strong>the</strong> manual graph method, include <strong>the</strong> GrayFinder20 target (or a later version). This is not needed<br />

when using IDEAlink Curve software.<br />

5.2.3 IT8.7/4 Characterization Target (or equivalent)<br />

If you plan on using <strong>the</strong> same form for characterizing or ICC-profiling <strong>the</strong> device, include at least one<br />

copy of <strong>the</strong> IT8.7/4 characterization target (or equivalent). On devices with uncertain evenness, include<br />

at least two IT8.7/4 targets rotated 180° <strong>and</strong> in line with, each o<strong>the</strong>r, as shown in 5.2.<br />

5.2.4 Gray Bars<br />

A ½ inch (1 cm) bar of 50c, 40m, 40y across <strong>the</strong> whole sheet.<br />

A ½ inch (1 cm) bar of 50K across <strong>the</strong> whole sheet.<br />

5.2.5 Test Images<br />

Some typical CMYK images, for example from <strong>the</strong> SCID image library.<br />

5.3 Press control bars<br />

Many existing press control bars can be adapted for use with <strong>the</strong> G7 method, or you can make up your<br />

own bar especially for G7 press control. Control bars fall into three general categories, Non-G7<br />

complaint, Minimum G7-complaint, <strong>and</strong> Optimum G7-compliant, as follows;<br />

5.3.1 Non G7-compliant control bars<br />

Virtually every basic press control bar provides 100% CMYKRGB patches for solid ink measurement,<br />

<strong>and</strong> 50% CMYK patches for mid-tone dot gain (TVI) measurements. If <strong>the</strong>se are <strong>the</strong> only patches<br />

available, <strong>the</strong> control bar would lack <strong>the</strong> essential 3-color gray patches necessary for G7 press control.<br />
