II (Age about 48 years) Brief description ong>ofong> the Mine • About the Mine: Jayant Project is a prestigious mine ong>ofong> NCL located in the south-central part ong>ofong> the Moher-sub basin ong>ofong> Singrauli coalfield in Singrauli (erstwhile Sidhi) Dist. ong>ofong> MP in between 24 0 6'45'' to 24 0 11'15'' latitudes and 82 0 32'40'' to 82 0 41'15'' longitudes at about 375 to 425m above mean sea level (MSL). Geologically, mine is part ong>ofong> Barakar formation having three coal seams namely Purewa top, Purewa bottom and Turra seam with an average striping ratio about 1: 2.70 (Coal:OB). In the year 2007-08, mine produced about 12.78Mte ong>ofong> coal and 32.97M.cum ong>ofong> OB. The Method ong>ofong> Work is Dragline-cum-Shovel- Dumper combination mining by using 4 nos ong>ofong> dragline, 16 nos ong>ofong> shovel, 97 nos ong>ofong> dumper and 18 nos ong>ofong> drill ong>ofong> different make and capacities in two section namely east and west section. • Brief description ong>ofong> accident: On 17th Dec.'08 at about 5.40 a.m., west section dragline dump near 32 nd cut failed and a large volume ong>ofong> overburden (OB) measuring about 135 m (length) x 6-19m (height) x 70 m (width) slided down from the failed dump and laterally shifted the coal rib, left as per provision stipulated under permission for working at dragline face, pushing 8 cum shovel towards high-wall across the access road. 5 persons being carried by a tipper was entrapped and buried under the slided OB mass. 39
