TKA RO 100 RDS
An advanced high purity water provider for analyzers
Description of the system:
Ready-to-connect reverse osmosis system for demineralization of
softened or hardness- stabilized tap water which complies with
potable water regulations. It fulfils the following requirements:
Colloid index: max. 3
Salt content: max. 2,000 mg/Litre
Free chlorine concentration: < 0.01 mg/Litre
Manganese content: < 0.05 mg/Litre
Iron content: < 0.05 mg/Litre
Features and benefits:
• Complete with an economical hardness stabilizer which eliminates time-consuming citric
acid rinsing or water softening
• Can be simply switched to emergency ion exchange operation so that a reliable supply of
de ionized water can be maintained should a system fault occur
• Two ion-exchange cartridges in series and downstream particle filter ensure economical
production of high-quality high purity water
• Built-in leak tester for fault-operated system shut-off and visual signal for highly safe
operation
• No disturbance to laboratory work due to low-noise immersion pump and easy
positioning where required due mobile, roller-mounted cabinet
Design of the system:
RO 100 RDS is supplied completely assembled in a compact, closed and dust-protective cabinet with
inspection panel door. Major components include pre treatment, a reverse osmosis module, digital
microprocessor control, a storage tank with level control, pressure booster pump with pressure control,
downstream desalting, a particle filter, an emergency supply of water, a warning signal lamp and a
water watcher with sensor. This ready-to-use, roller-mounted complete system can be upgraded to a
maximum of 350 L/h should water requirements increase. The compact, low noise construction make
TKA RO 100 RDS an ideal supplier of high purity water for analyzers, as well as for general laboratory
purposes according to international quality-standards like CLSI.
Construction of the system:
• Check valve that ensures that treated water cannot flow back into the tap water supply.
Installation Type 1, DVGW tested. DIN 1988, Part 4
• Pre treatment consisting of a 10“ filter housing with an activated carbon + 5 µm filter combicartridge
for protection of downstream purification media from free chlorine and particles
• Hardness stabilizer unit, consisting of a10“ filter housing with hardness stabilizer cartridge for
protection of the reverse osmosis module against scale formation
• Reverse osmosis module, removes organic and inorganic contamination, micro organisms,
particles and colloids
• Digital control, automatically monitors and controls the reverse osmosis system
• Storage tank with level control, pressure pump and controls, allow direct supply of
product water to connected equipment
• Two ion exchangers in series, each of type DI 2800 RDS, with quick connect couplings and
check valve, for most economical and reliable removal of residual salts
• Particle filter unit, consisting of a 10“ filter housing with a 1 µm particle removing filter, for
protection of connected equipment from particulates
• Emergency supply valve allows immediate switching of the feed water directly to the
downstream ion exchangers and so ensures a continued supply of de ionized water should a
system fault occur
• Red signal lamp, indicates that the limiting value for salt removal by the ion exchange
cartridges has been exceeded
• Leak monitor with sensor, shuts-off the water supply on indication of a fault. An 0.5 mm
water film is sufficient to trigger shut-off and initiate a loud signal tone
Construction of the reverse osmosis system and filtration steps:
1 x Safety pressure switch protects against dry-running by switching off when the feed water
pressure is too low
1 x Pressure gauge for feed water and operating pressure, allows monitoring of the system and
simple fault-finding should a system fault occur
1 x High pressure pump for generation of the operating pressure required to drive the permeation
of water through the membrane
2 x Spiral-wound membranes, each together with pressure tube and all fittings required, for the
removal of organic and inorganic contaminants, micro organisms, particles and colloids
2 x Flow meters for display of concentrate and permeate flow
2 x Regulating valves for adjustment of the operating pressure and the water conversion factor
3 x Solenoid valves for the supply of feed water and for the quality rinse
2 x Measuring cells for the determination of feed water and permeate conductivities
1 x Complete piping, materials PP, POM, PA and stainless steel
1 x Digital microprocessor control for fully automatic monitoring and control of the reverse osmosis
system
Characteristics and functions of the digital control:
The digital microprocessor control includes an illuminated, two-line, alpha-numeric LCD display with
16 characters for the display of all operating functions and performance parameters. Major features
are:
• The plastic housing in which it is contained, protection type IP 65, has a plastic-foil keypad for
start and flow of operations
• High precision conductivity measurement in µS/cm for permeate and high purity water, with
individual settable limiting value for high purity
• High safety standard assured by an integrated main switch for voltage shut-off, a protective
motor switch for safeguarding the pump, and micro fuses for all users and the control voltage
of the electronics
• Simple fault diagnosis/display, with fault display for feed water pressure, operating pressure
gauge, and 230V/50Hz for display of faults by means of signal lamps and fault messages in
the display
• Cyclic, individually adjustable internal rinse for combating bacterial growth during standstill,
cleaning and disinfection menu, automatic permeate discard, and return to the last operating
mode following a power cut
• Possibility of connecting a water level controller, accessories and external commanders, as
well as potential-free contacts and fault message displays
