CBO FUNDING CALENDAR
April 2011
ANNOUNCEMENTS, TRAINING & PUBLICATIONS:
To our readers,
I am sad to inform you that in spite of unfailingly positive evaluations including
glowing personal testimony, and our largest list-serve ever, the CBO Funding
Calendar will end with the June issue unless we are able to raise an additional
$15,000 before July. We haven’t missed an issue since we began in the summer
of 1992. Thanks to the many organizations which have supported us with
funding since 2003 when our NYC Ryan White funding ended! We wanted to
warn you before we just disappeared, and would appreciate any funding you can
direct our way before July that could grant our Calendar a reprieve!
Sincerely,
Randi Baker, Founder &Editor rbaker@batf.net
The present fiscal crisis and its potential challenges to the continuum of vital services for the
communities of New York provide daunting challenges. Competition for limited resources could
potentially tear at the delicate fabric of New York’s diversity. Fortunately, we have a record of
pulling together at times of great crises. A Morning of Bridge Building on Thursday, April 14
from 10:00am-12:30pm at The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, 515
Malcolm X Boulevard in Manhattan will feature a special performance of Sosua: Dare to Dance
Together, followed by a town hall conversation with the audience around the issue of diversity and
community building in New York in the 21 st century with the intent of sparking meaningful
dialogue between distinguished leaders and activists. Sosua: Dare To Dance Together is a project
of the YM-YWHA of Washington Heights and Inwood. The story is based on the actual events of
1938 when Jewish Holocaust refugees arriving in Sosua, a small Dominican town, formed a
special kinship with Sosua’s established residents and community. RSVP to Karen Lander by
