M2PA V1.0
IETF RFC 4165
MOD 100 1093
The MTP-L2 User Peer-to-Peer Adaptation Layer (M2PA), protocol module handles
transport of Signaling System No. 7 Message Transfer Part Level 3 (MTP-
L3) signaling messages over Internet Protocol (IP) using the services of the
Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP).
The M2PA protocol module is suitable for supporting
the transfer of messages from MTP-L3 protocol layer
over SCTP. This enables the use of IP infrastructure
for transport of SS7 signaling while maintaining the
network topology of 2G and 3G networks.
The M2PA protocol module is fully integrated in
Tieto’s Signaling Software products.
Standards
M2PA is developed according to the following standards:
» IETF RFC 4165 (05/09)
Features
» Support for Tieto SCTP
» Support for IPv4 and IPv6
» Link alignment procedures
» Link emergency alignment procedures
» Link congestion handling
» Link status: Processor Outage handling
» Level 3 flow control
» Changeover procedures
» Transport failure detection
» M2PA Link Management functions
» Configurable supression of link proving period
» Supports 128 links/M2PA instance
» Multiple MTP-L3 instances can share the same
M2PA instance
Interface
The upper interface primitives establish communication
with MTP-L3.
