Vietnam is predominantly an origin country for migrants and<br />
trafficked persons.<br />
Emigrants are found in a limited number of regions in<br />
Vietnam and can generally be classified into one of the<br />
following groups:<br />
• Chinese workers, mainly men, working in provinces<br />
that contain Chinese-owned factories and mines. They<br />

work in construction, mining, power plant operation<br />
and manufacturing.<br />
• Cambodian beggars in Ho Chi Minh City. During the first<br />
six months of 2006, the Department of Social Affairs,<br />
Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation (DSVY) in Svay Rieng<br />
reported 396 cases of Cambodian deportees from<br />
Vietnam. Of these deportees, some 72 were identified<br />
as victims of human trafficking.<br />
• African migrants entering Vietnam through Ho Chi<br />
Minh City on tourist visas, but remaining in the country<br />
unlawfully after the expiration of their visas.<br />

were 2,935 Vietnamese victims of trafficking between<br />
