lAO PDR<br />

The Ministry of Public security<br />

Acts as the head of the COMMIT Task Force. The Anti-<br />

Trafficking Division sits within this Ministry (at the central<br />

level) as does the Anti-Trafficking Unit (at the provincial level).<br />

Their main role is to investigate trafficking cases, collect<br />

evidence and submit cases to the Prosecutor’s Office.<br />

The Prosecutor’s Office<br />

Examines documents and submits the cases which have<br />

enough evidence to the court.<br />

The Ministry of labour and social welfare (Department of<br />

social welfare)<br />

Has a unit devoted to child protection from trafficking and<br />

also receives and assists returned Lao victims of cross-border<br />

trafficking with reintegration.<br />

The Ministry, with support from the IOM, also maintains a<br />

small-scale repatriation assistance centre for returned victims<br />

of trafficking.<br />

Is involved in raising awareness about trafficking, and<br />

advocacy and offers educational programs designed to<br />

educate young women regarding the schemes of recruiters<br />

for destination brothels and sweatshops.<br />

lao women’s union<br />

Provides legal advice and assistance, and vocational training,<br />

to victims of trafficking and offers a shelter to victims of<br />

domestic abuse, sexual abuse, and trafficking and women<br />

who are abandoned or homeless.<br />
